This whiskey is named after Stitzel-Weller Distillery's former master distiller, Thomas McCarthy McAfee.
The "Top Floor Elevation Matters" label on the bottle refers to the fact that the aging process of bourbon whiskey can be affected by where the barrels are stored in a warehouse. The higher the elevation, the more extreme temperature fluctuations the barrels experience, which can cause the whiskey to mature differently than those stored at lower elevations.
McAfee's Benchmark Top Floor Elevation Matters Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is made from a mash bill that consists of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley. It is aged for a minimum of 7 years and bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV). The whiskey has a smooth, mellow taste with notes of caramel, vanilla, and oak, and is best enjoyed neat or on the rocks.
