New Approaches to the Archaeology of Beekeeping aims to take a holistic view of beekeeping archaeology (including honey, wax, and associated products, hive construction, and participants in this trade) in one large interconnected geographic region, the Mediterranean, central Europe, and the Atlantic Façade. Current interest in beekeeping is growing because of the precipitous decline of bees worldwide and the disastrous effect it portends for global agriculture. As a result, all aspects of beekeeping in all historical periods are coming under closer scrutiny. The volume focuses on novel approaches to historical beekeeping but also offers new applications of more established ways of treating apicultural material from the past. It is also keenly interested in helping readers navigate the challenges inherent in studying beekeeping historically. The volume brings together scholars working on ancient, medieval, early modern, and ethnographic evidence of beekeeping from a variety of perspectives. In this sense it will serve as a handbook for current researchers in this field and for those who wish to undertake research into the archaeology of beekeeping.

DAVID WALLACE-HARE (PhD University of Toronto) is an environmental historian of ancient and medieval beekeeping, mining, and forest management in western Europe. He is currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Exeter on the NERC-funded project MEMBRA (Understanding Memory of Treescapes for Better Resilience and Adaptation).

NOT durable (tested by a french bulldog who is not a super chewer)
Color: Beau - The Teddy Bear, Size: One Size
This bear came apart in less than 2 minutes (french bull dog, playing by himself, and not a super chewer) - so I would not consider it durable; and this isn't a fluke, as it's the second one we've tried. We purchased it because we have a Pet Passion Plush Rabbit - which has proven to be durable and has stayed together beautifully - so we do recommend the rabbit. Same dog, same play behavior with both - so it appears the bear is not crafted the same as the rabbit.

Great, durable, cotton toy!
Color: Buffy - The Bunny, Size: One Size, Color: Buffy - The Bunny, Size: One Size
Was on the hunt for dog toys that weren't made of plastic, especially since my dogs try to eat the polyester stuffing. This toy has held up remarkably well to my 2 dogs' play and chewing (Labrador and corgi). Squeaker still works! You can see the wear near the eyes and I'm glad my dog is ingesting a little wool instead of plastic.

Didn’t last long
Color: Buffy - The Bunny, Size: One Size
Three stars because I really loved that this was made from 100% cotton and had the coconut fiber fill, it’s almost impossible to find non toxic, natural fabric and fill for dog toys for some illogical reason, but unfortunately, it only lasted a day for my husky. She’s not that hard on her chew toys, so it should’ve lasted. The squeaker was also not what I had hoped for, difficult to get it to squeak. This is a common problem w squeaky dog toys I’m finding. I would love for this company to improve the durability, get better squeakers and become the go-to place for me and other dog owners who understand the importance of all natural chew toys. I would support, be a lifelong customer and recommend to all my fam and friends.
