What remained of the badly decomposed body of twelve--year--old Tina Marie Andrews was discovered underneath a discarded sofa in the woods outside of McComb, Mississippi, on August 23, 1969. Ten days earlier, Andrews and a friend had accepted a ride home after leaving the Tiger's Den, a local teenage hangout, but they were driven instead to the remote area where Andrews was eventually murdered. Although eyewitness testimony pointed to two local police officers, no one was ever convicted of this brutal crime, and to this day the case remains officially unsolved. Contemporary local newspaper coverage notwithstanding, the story of Andrews's murder has not been told. Indeed, many people in the McComb community still, more than fifty years later, hesitate to speak of the tragedy.

Trent Brown's Murder in McComb is the first comprehensive examination of this case, the lengthy investigation into it, and the two extended trials that followed. Brown also explores the public shaming of the state's main witness, a fifteen-year-old unwed mother, and the subsequent desecration of Andrews's grave. Set against the uneasy backdrop of the civil rights movement, Brown's study deftly reconstructs various accounts of the murder, explains why the juries reached the verdicts they did, and explores the broader forces that shaped the community in which Andrews lived and died.

Unlike so many other accounts of violence in the Jim Crow South, racial animus was not the driving force behind Andrews's murder; in fact, most of the individuals central to the case, from the sheriff to the judges to the victim, were white. Yet Andrews, as well as her friend Billie Jo Lambert, the state's key witness, were "girls of ill repute," as one defense attorney put it. To many people in McComb, Tina and Billie Jo were "trashy" children whose circumstances reflected their families' low socioeconomic standing. In the end, Brown suggests that Tina Andrews had the great misfortune to be murdered in a town where the locals were overly eager to support law, order, and stability--instead of true justice--amid the tense and uncertain times during and after the civil rights movement.

my Holy Grail Brow product thank you Katie Jane Hughes
Color: Medium Brown
This is my 3rd or 4th? re-order. I don't know what I will do if it gets discontinued for any reason:( I have very sparse , light brows. This is the only thing in the world that has ever let me make realistic brow hairs, with a small learning curve that don't look drawn on, or fade during the day. The pen will dry out if not left stored upside down. It lasts me at least a few months. I'm always ordering another one before it runs out just so that I'll have a back up. Thank you allure! Glossier has a version of this, but it's less product for more money and the tip isn't a thin as this one. I have even ordered this for friends, it's that good.

Too bad product totally dried up within a few days
Color: Taupe
I really wished this had worked: the color was perfect. At first use the ink was dry but noticeable. Second use, totally dried up. I wanted to return it and try again, but Amazon required the original packaging. Who keeps the original packaging on a $6 item?

Love these!
Color: Dark Brown
I use these everyday. They're the best pen I have found for brows. They have a thin tip perfect for hair like strokes. Hate the Ulta stopped carrying them.

Maybe a fluke?
Color: Medium Brown
I'm truly bummed because I loved this product and was so excited to find such an accurate brow pen that was a good price. I thought the search was over.. I literally got two good applications from it which were to test it out and get the feel of this pen. I did not leave the cap open and when not in use, stored vertically so the tip is pointing down (good habits for such products). Two uses and it was like it was empty. I could get a stroke here and there, but it just kept giving less and less. Maybe I did something wrong, but I've been on the hunt for a good brow pen and have tried many - I know the do's and dont's. I'm so so soo bummed because it was amazing and so relieving for the brief moment I was able to use it. I thought my search was over. I may try it again - maybe it was a fluke.. but this is a great pen if it can actually provide more than a couple uses.

The product and colors are absolutely fabulous!
Color: Medium Brown
The only disappointment I have is that the product runs out quickly. The product design, color, and mechanism is first class. Perhaps the 3 times that I’ve purchased had been sitting on the shelf for a while. Since this is similar to a paint brush, I wish the package would include a date of manufacturing so that the consumer knows what they are buying. I love the application tip. It lays down a moderate, hair-like stroke of realistic color. The time it takes to dry allows you to finish application of one whole brown, and time to blur it for a more natural look. Fantastic product.
