A khatvanga is a long, studded staff or club which is a ritual instrument held in the crook of the left arm of advanced Vajrayana Buddhist practitioners during ceremonies. It symbolizes the triumph of wisdom over illusion. This is originally understood as Shiva's weapon. It evolved as a traditional ritualistic symbol in Indian religions and Tantric traditions like Shaivism, and in the Vajrayana of Tibetan Buddhism. 

This magnificent khatvanga is a copy of the khatvanga that offered to the Emperor Qianlong from from his teacher Changkya Rölpé Dorjé in the 17th century. The crossed-vajra symbolizes the four purified elements, the four types of activities, the four immeasurables, and the four doors to liberation; the vase with its nectar represents the attainment of wisdom; the three impaled heads represent the eradication of the three poisons (ignorance, attachment, and aversion), and the surmounting vajra symbolizes the sixth element of wisdom. The stick body is ornate with coil pattern with a lotus bud at the tip.
