Background
The NUT protein, which stands for nuclear protein in testis, is a transcription factor that plays a crucial role in embryonic development. It is typically found in the testes and is involved in the regulation of gene expression. However, when it is abnormally expressed or translocated in other tissues, it can lead to the development of certain types of cancers, particularly NUT midline carcinoma (NMC), a rare but aggressive malignancy.
