Lovely, 1930s portrait of a woman in black in a cropped veiled hat. Oil on stretched canvas. Framed in a minimal wood frame. Signed M. Joly for Madeline Joly. Her work is relatively unknown, but recently a large amount of her paintings were found in an old chateau outside of Lyon, France. This is one of those pieces.
Has a small patch, the size of a dime, on the top of the painting, blends well and is shown in photos. There is also very small wear to the canvas in the upper corner. Also shown in photos. Other than that, in fabulous condition. Very charming and would be lovely in a sitting room, hallway or bedroom.
