Discover reliable, industrial-grade serial bridging with the 485SD9TB, a port-powered two-channel RS-232 to RS-485 converter designed for seamless integration between legacy serial equipment and modern RS-485 networks. This converter translates the TD (transmit) and RD (receive) lines from RS-232 into balanced, half-duplex RS-485 signals, enabling robust data communication across long distances and noisy environments. Its smart power model draws supply from the RS-232 data and handshake lines, reducing cabling clutter and simplifying field deployments. When higher power availability is needed, an external power supply can be connected through two terminals, offering flexibility for diverse setups. With compact dimensions and straightforward operation, the 485SD9TB is a practical solution for factory floors, automation systems, building management, and remote data collection where multiple devices need reliable RS-485 access from a single serial host.

  • Two-channel RS-232 to RS-485 conversion: The 485SD9TB converts the TD and RD signals of RS-232 into balanced, half-duplex RS-485 signals, enabling two independent channels to communicate on an RS-485 network.
  • Port-powered design: This converter draws its operating power directly from the RS-232 data and handshake lines, helping to minimize power wiring and simplify installation in equipment racks and control panels.
  • External power option: For scenarios where RS-232 power is insufficient or where redundancy is required, an external power supply can be connected to two terminals to guarantee stable operation.
  • Compact, rugged platform: Built for industrial environments, the unit combines a compact footprint with durable construction, making it suitable for tight control cabinets and field installations where space is at a premium.
  • Easy integration with existing serial infrastructure: Designed to plug into standard RS-232 ports and interconnect with RS-485 devices, offering plug-and-play usability with minimal configuration and setup time.

Technical Details of B&B PT PWRD 9PIN 232/485 CONV W/SD

  • Interface: RS-232 to RS-485 converter with two independent channels
  • RS-485 mode: Balanced half-duplex signaling for reliable multi-device networking
  • Power: Port-powered from RS-232 data and handshake lines; external power supply can be connected via two terminals
  • Connector configuration: 9-pin (as indicated by the product name), supporting common RS-232 signaling
  • Routing: TD and RD lines are mapped to the RS-485 A/B pair for standard two-wire RS-485 communication
  • Physical design: Compact enclosure suitable for mounting in standard equipment racks or control panels

How to install B&B PT PWRD 9PIN 232/485 CONV W/SD

  • Step 1 – Connect RS-232 host: Attach the RS-232 side of the converter to your host device using a standard RS-232 cable. Ensure the TX, RX, and ground lines are properly aligned with the host’s COM port.
  • Step 2 – Wire RS-485 devices: Connect the RS-485 devices to the converter’s RS-485 terminals (A and B). Use twisted-pair cable for improved EMI resistance and ensure correct polarity to avoid network conflicts.
  • Step 3 – Power the unit: If you rely on the port-powered design, you can operate the device using power drawn from the RS-232 lines. If you need additional power or reliable operation in power-constrained environments, connect an external power supply to the two terminals on the unit.
  • Step 4 – Verify communication: Power up the host and confirm that data transmitted from the RS-232 side appears correctly on the RS-485 network. Check for signal integrity over the expected cable length and data rate.
  • Step 5 – Network considerations: Place the converter near the RS-232 host or the RS-485 network entry point. Keep cabling routes tidy, maintain proper shielding where possible, and ensure the network’s biasing and termination are suitable for your RS-485 topology.

Frequently asked questions

  • What does the 485SD9TB do?
    It is a port-powered two-channel RS-232 to RS-485 converter that translates RS-232 TD/RD signals into RS-485 A/B signals, enabling RS-485 multi-point networks controlled by an RS-232 host.
  • Is external power required?
The device is designed to be powered from the RS-232 data and handshake lines, but an external power supply can be connected to two terminals if needed for higher power reliability or in power-limited environments.
  • What type of RS-485 signaling does it use?
It uses balanced half-duplex RS-485 signaling, suitable for point-to-point or multi-drop networks with a single pair of A/B lines used for transmission and reception.
  • Can I use this converter with 9-pin RS-232 connectors?
Yes. The product title indicates 9PIN, which corresponds to a standard RS-232 interface commonly using a DB9 connector in many equipment configurations.
  • Do I need to configure the converter?
The converter is designed for easy integration with minimal to no software configuration. Typical usage involves wiring RS-232 TX/RX to the host and RS-485 A/B to the RS-485 network, with optional external power if required.

Slightly repetitive but I did love some things
Format: Kindle
I love this type of story. And omegaverse is one of my all time favorite genres. But there are a few things that pulled me out of my enjoyment while I was reading. It was repetitive at times as well as struggled with telling not showing. So we didn’t always feel like we were experiencing things with the main character. There were also some plot holes but they may still be answered in part 2. Now this isn’t to be said I didn’t enjoy parts of the story. I loved the almost instant love between Mila and Oliver. And how he started changing around her.

not bad
Format: Kindle
I loved the plot of this book. The characters just didn’t have a lot of depth. The connections and “love” just weren’t communicated very well in the writing. The author didn’t write the sweet psycho trope very well at all either. Lachlan was just a mess of a character.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger
