This map is an original creation by our design studio at Africa Map Art and is based on data from various up-to-date sources. Our default paper choice is the high quality 210gsm heavyweight coated paper with a matte finish, which achieves excellent colour and resolution which is perfect for framing. A 260gsm satin photo paper is also available for those who prefer a different texture and finish. The Bloemhof Dam, originally named Oppermansdrif Dam, was commissioned in 1970 and is located at the confluence of the Vaal and Vet rivers. It was a key component of the Vaal River Control System, and with a capacity of 1,27 million cubic metres it is designed to regulate the flow of the Vaal River and provide water for irrigation and municipal use to the surrounding areas. The dam created a vast, shallow reservoir, leading to the establishment of two separate nature reserves, the Bloemhof Dam Nature Reserve and the Sandveld Nature Reserve, on either side of the provincial border.
