Karen Napaljarri Barnes was born in Lajamanu, a remote Aboriginal community in semi-arid country on the edge of the Tanami Desert 1000km north-west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. She moved to Yuendumu, 700km south, after finishing school in Lajamanu, to be with her family. She has been painting with Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation, an Aboriginal owned and governed Art Centre, since 2001. She is the grand-daughter of Warlukurlangu's famous artist Judy Napangardi Watson and they would sit together painting at the Art Centre every day when Karen first started painting. Karen paints the dreaming stories handed down to her by her family for millennia, stories which come from Mina Mina, country west of Yuendumu of which her family are the custodians. She also paints Karnta Jukurrpa (Women’s Dreaming), Wakulyarri Jukurrpa (Wallaby Dreaming), Ngarlajiyi Jukurrpa (Bush Carrot Dreaming) Ngatijirri Jukurrpa (Bugerigar Dreaming). Karen loves sport, especially basketball and softball, and is an avid football spectator, barracking for Lajamanu.

Love! New favorite pants!!

I really love these pants! They’re extremely versatile. I wear them to work in professional attire, then come home, throw on a t-shirt, and wear them to lounge for the evening. They’ll even be great over a swimsuit on vacation. Bonus points for having pockets! They have been durable enough for my phone and keys without them dragging the pants down. When I first received them, I was surprised by how thin and somewhat see-through the apricot pants are— to the point that I considered returning them. I’m so glad I didn’t! They are insanely comfortable. Don’t let the reviews about being see-through deter you. Work around it! One day of wear and you’ll see why. I prefer to wear these with shirts that tuck in the front and cover most of my bottom in the back due to how see-through they are in this light color. The comfort is worth it! They are long for someone my height, 5’2”. I wear them with a Sofft sandal that has a thicker sole that adds a little height. This prevents them from touching the ground without me having to pull up on them all day. I can easily and comfortably wear them a little high on the waist to help with the length, as long as I’m wearing the thicker-soled sandal (or a heel). I don’t wear heels, so it’s thicker soled shoes for me! I don’t feel these are going to be the most durable pants and expect to replace them more quickly than other pants- but I do expect to get at least a couple of good years out of them. They are lightweight and cool, perfect for summer and spring. I don’t see myself wearing them to work or anywhere outside during cold winter weather. I read the reviews and ordered a size down. I’m normally a large, size 8-10, and the medium fits wonderfully and is very giving. If I liked a tight pant, I probably could’ve gone with a small. I will absolutely be purchasing them in other colors! With this apricot color you’ll need to wear white or skin-colored seamless underwear. I took one star off for being somewhat see-through. Outside of that, they are easily 5 star pants. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ For the $20-$25 price, get them and thank me later!!
