ABOUT THE ITEM
Unapologetically rare and impossibly striking, trapiche emeralds are the rebels of the emerald world. Named after the six-spoke cogwheel used to crush sugar cane, these captivating gems form when dark carbon impurities grow within the emerald’s hexagonal crystal structure, creating dramatic six-pointed stars that seem almost too perfect to be natural. First documented in 1879 by French mineralogist Emile Bertrand, trapiche emeralds remain one of the rarest types of naturally-occurring emerald to this day.
At the heart of this custom-designed ring is a mesmerizing 5.42 carat natural trapiche emerald of Colombian origin, securely set in platinum with fierce 18K yellow gold talon prongs that echo the gem’s bold energy. This gem is accompanied by a GRS Report (GRS2017-084099), with the coveted designation of “Insignificant Oil,” attesting to its exceptional quality.
The rich green emerald is flanked by two colorless trillion cut natural diamonds, totaling 1.00 carat. They are absolutely free of color, grading D color, and have a very high clarity grade, as well, grading VS1-VS2 clarity.
Currently a size 6.5 with a weight of 7.4 grams, this one-of-a-kind piece is hallmarked “PLAT 18K”, and is sure to be a conversation starter.
