The Cisco DC SN840 7.60 TB NVMe Solid State Drive is built for data centers that demand uncompromising performance, massive capacity, and exceptional reliability. This 2.5" internal NVMe SSD leverages the power of NVMe to deliver ultra-low latency and high throughput essential for today’s data-intensive workloads. Designed to function within Cisco UCS and Cisco Nexus-based environments, the SN840 provides a scalable storage foundation for database acceleration, virtualization, AI inference, big data analytics, and disaster recovery pipelines. With a substantial 7.60 TB capacity, it enables operators to consolidate storage, reduce I/O bottlenecks, and simplify management in dense server deployments while maintaining enterprise-grade data protection and service levels.

  • High-capacity NVMe storage: 7.60 TB of solid-state capacity for dense databases, large-scale virtualization, analytics, and backup solutions.
  • 2.5-inch U.2 form factor: Internal NVMe drive in a standard 2.5" drive size with SFF-8639 backplane compatibility for easy hot-swapping in data centers.
  • Enterprise-grade NVMe performance: Accelerates I/O-intensive workloads with low latency and sustained throughput optimized for server-class backplanes and enterprise storage fabrics.
  • Reliability for 24/7 operations: Built for continuous operation in mission-critical environments with robust error handling, wear leveling, and efficient power management.
  • Seamless Cisco integration: Optimized to work within Cisco data center ecosystems, including Cisco UCS and Nexus-based storage deployments for streamlined management and firmware updates.

Technical Details of Cisco DC SN840

  • Form Factor: 2.5-inch internal solid-state drive (SSD)
  • Interface: NVMe over U.2 (SFF-8639) PCIe
  • Capacity: 7.60 TB
  • Protocol: NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express)
  • Target Market: Enterprise data centers, cloud deployments, Cisco UCS environments

How to Install Cisco DC SN840

  • Power down the server or storage array and disconnect power to prevent electrostatic discharge.
  • Identify an available 2.5" U.2 drive bay with a supported backplane (SFF-8639) suitable for NVMe hot-swapping.
  • Remove the existing drive tray, insert the Cisco DC SN840 into the slot, and secure it with the chassis’ retaining mechanism as required.
  • Connect the U.2 data and power cables (or backplane interface) to the drive, ensuring firm and clean connections.
  • Power on the system and access the server or storage firmware to initialize the new drive and configure any required PCIe/NVMe settings, RAID passthrough, or storage pools.
  • Install or update operating system NVMe drivers and management utilities, then verify the drive’s health, SMART attributes, and performance using appropriate monitoring tools.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: Is the Cisco DC SN840 compatible with Cisco UCS and Nexus environments?
  • A: Yes. The SN840 is designed to integrate with Cisco data center ecosystems, offering compatibility with Cisco servers, storage backplanes, and management frameworks to streamline deployment and lifecycle management.
  • Q: What workloads is the SN840 best suited for?
  • A: The drive excels in data-intensive workloads such as large-scale databases, real-time analytics, virtualization, AI/ML inference, and backup/archiving, where high capacity and low latency are critical.
  • Q: What performance benefits does NVMe provide for this drive?
  • A: NVMe enables substantially lower latency and higher IOPS compared with legacy SATA/SAS drives, improving response times for transaction-heavy databases, virtual machines, and streaming workloads.
  • Q: How do I ensure reliability in a 24/7 data-center environment?
  • A: Implement enterprise-grade features such as robust wear leveling, power-failure protection, error correction, and proactive health monitoring, and deploy within a redundant, properly cooled backplane and RAID or storage pool configuration.
  • Q: What steps are required to install or replace the SN840 in a backplane?
  • A: Use a hot-swappable 2.5" U.2 drive bay supported by your chassis; follow standard replacement procedures, then initialize the drive in the server/storage firmware and verify performance and health after replacement.
  • Q: What level of warranty or support comes with this drive?
  • A: Cisco enterprise drives typically come with manufacturer warranty and access to Cisco technical support and firmware updates; confirm coverage with your Cisco account or distributor for your region and licensing.

What I've been looking for
Size: Large (Pack of 1)
Just got my Nero Ball. Only used it once, but really like it. I've tried other "ball on a string" type toys, with unsatisfactory results. I'll be using it as a training reward, and my boy, who is a pretty ferocious tugger, is going to learn 2 new things with this ball. 1st, to target the ball instead of the rope, and 2nd, that it's for a little gentle tugging instead of the full throttle stuff he does otherwise. After our 1st session with the Nero Ball, he's picking up on the new rules quickly. We'll see how it does long term, but I think this is one I'll stay with. *UPDATE* Been using my Nero Ball for a month now. I'm tempted to call it the 'Hero Ball' because it's just that terrific!! For me, the key has been putting in the time to allow both myself & my dog to develop the skill to use this tool smoothly. May sound strange, but using a toy as a training reward requires practice, and each different toy configuration requires different handling. It's time well spent - we're both having a lot of fun! Kudos to the designer of this ball. Every detail has been carefully considered, from the length & material of the rope (just the right length that the dog won't step on it; material is easy on the hand while still being tough enough to withstand a few toothy grabs; the loop is the perfect size to grab for a little tug or to pass the ball through to slip-knot it onto a belt loop). The ball is also just right. The knobs make it non-slip, the rubber eliminates tennis ball fuzz concerns, and being semi-hard and hollow makes it slightly compress-able, which makes it a higher value reward than a solid ball that can't be compressed. While this ball will not work for every application or for every dog, if you carefully read & understand the information provided and don't expect it to work outside those parameters, you will be pleasantly surprised by a very well designed, well constructed tool that you can use to enhance your training or play sessions with your dog.

Nice toy
Size: Large (Pack of 1)
This product is generally durable and easy to throw. However, the original rope knot came undone after just four throws, per my wife. Unfortunately, my knot-tying skills are limited to fishing knots and slip knots, which is on me. While I can't give a perfect score, I believe it deserves a 4.5 out of 5 stars due to the knot issue. A simple solution would be to apply heat shrink tubing over the knot and heat it to secure it, which would enhance its reliability and potentially elevate the rating to a perfect five stars.

Our German Shepherd loves it!
Size: Large (Pack of 1)
Order arrived promptly and in good condition. Our GSD barely let us get it out of the package before wanting to play with it. Works great as training reward and for fetch games. Been using it for three weeks, and it is holding up well.
