The Black Box Fiber Optic A/B Desktop Switch with a latching mechanism and SC single-mode connectors is a compact, robust solution designed to manage critical network paths with ease. This full-duplex optical switch enables you to connect a device to either of two networks or remote devices, making it ideal for environments that demand quick, secure failover and precise path control. Built for reliability in demanding sectors, this switch emphasizes straightforward operation, durable construction, and seamless integration into existing fiber infrastructure. Whether you’re conducting tests, performing maintenance, or ensuring uptime in sensitive facilities, this desktop switch delivers dependable, hands-on switching without the need for complex software or power.
  • Full-duplex fiber optic A/B desktop switch that lets you connect a network device to either Network A or Network B, enabling rapid, hands-on transitions between two separate paths without rebooting equipment. The latching mechanism provides a secure, positive selection, reducing the risk of accidental changes during routine maintenance or critical operations. Use it to optimize workflows in labs, data centers, or field environments where downtime must be minimized and path isolation is essential.
  • Mission-critical design for government, healthcare, and financial services where controlled network access matters. By enabling explicit, one-at-a-time connections, the switch helps limit exposure between segments and improves security during scheduled maintenance or testing. Its reliable mechanical operation supports strict change-management processes, making it a preferred choice for environments that demand discipline and reliability in network routing.
  • SC single-mode connectors for long-distance, high-performance fiber links that align with standard single-mode infrastructure. The connector type supports low-loss, high-bandwidth transmission over longer spans, making it suitable for campus backbones, data-center interconnects, or remote device access. With single-mode compatibility, you can leverage existing fiber paths and protocols while maintaining high signal integrity and reduced dispersion.
  • Compact desktop form factor with clear cable management that fits neatly on a workstation, drawer, or equipment cart. Its small footprint preserves workspace while keeping critical switching hardware within easy reach for quick maintenance or testing. The mechanical latch ensures cables stay engaged, even in busy environments, helping to prevent accidental disconnects during routine movements or rearrangements.
  • Simple, no-software operation for fast deployment and uptime as a passive, mechanical switch. There’s no software to install or configure, so IT staff can deploy quickly and reduce learning curves. Connect the SC fiber cables to Port A and Port B, use the latch to select the active path, and verify connectivity with standard device testing. This straightforward approach minimizes downtime and dependencies on management systems, while delivering dependable path control.

how to install Black Box Fiber Optic A/B Desktop Switch - Latching with SC Single-Mode Connectors

1. Prepare your workspace by identifying Port A and Port B on the switch and ensuring you have compatible SC single-mode fiber cables. Keep cables coiled neatly to prevent excessive bending and protect connector ends from damage.

2. Connect the fiber from Network A or remote device to Port A using an SC single-mode jumper. Secure the connection by ensuring the connector is fully seated and the latch is engaged. Repeat the process for Network B or the alternate remote device on Port B.

3. Attach the device you intend to share or route through the switch to the active network path as required by your workflow. This could be a workstation, test instrument, or another network endpoint that will benefit from being switched between paths.

4. Use the latching mechanism to select the desired path. Slide or flip the latch to the A position to activate Port A, or to the B position to activate Port B. Ensure the latch fully engages to maintain a stable connection and prevent inadvertent path changes during operation.

5. Verify connectivity and performance. Check link integrity, data transmission, and any application-level performance indicators to confirm that the switch is routing traffic correctly along the chosen path. If issues arise, reseat the connectors and re-latch the switch to the desired path.

6. Manage cables for reliability and safety. Route fiber cables away from sources of mechanical stress, and use cable ties or guides to reduce contact with the switch housing. Label each path clearly to support rapid reconfiguration during maintenance or testing.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: What is a fiber optic A/B desktop switch? A: It is a compact, mechanical device that allows a single device to connect to either of two separate fiber networks or remote devices. The switch provides controlled, single-path routing between A and B in full-duplex fiber environments, without requiring software or power to operate.
  • Q: What connectors does it use? A: The unit uses SC single-mode connectors for each fiber path, aligning with standard single-mode fiber installations and long-distance links.
  • Q: Do I need to configure anything? A: No. This is a passive, mechanical switch that does not require software configuration. Connections are made via the physical latch and plug-and-play fiber cables.
  • Q: Can this switch be used for long-distance links? A: Yes. Since it uses SC single-mode connectors, it is suitable for long-haul fiber links and high-bandwidth applications typical of campus backbones and data-center interconnects, within the constraints of your fiber cabling.
  • Q: Is this switch compatible with multi-mode fiber? A: It is designed for single-mode fiber via SC connectors. Using it with multi-mode fiber may require adapters or specific fiber cabling designed for single-mode operation; ensure your fiber path matches the switch’s single-mode specification.
  • Q: Is additional power required? A: No. The switch is mechanical and passive, so there is no power requirement and it does not rely on an external power source to operate.

Misleading size stated in adv.
Size: Small, Size: Small
Absolutely ridiculous! Says 23.5” by 23.5 “. It just barely measures a little more than 19 inches. You have to fold up the 24” by 24” per pad to fit it. I don’t know if my 5 pound chihuahua will be able to use it. A complete waste of money!! First photo shows it in frame - 2nd photo show what is a 24 by 24 pad.

FANTASTIC PAD HOLDER
Size: 28'' X 34'', Size: 28'' X 34''
Amazon Basics Dog Training Pad Holder 28X34. I'll start out by saying I wasn't too sure about it, when I got it. It is awkward to put the pads in by yourself if your short as on each end the sides have to come up together and it’s big, however, I've done it five times alone now and it’s doable. There was no smell, it arrived in perfect condition. My husband was home and we set it up together, I walked into the bathroom to get a soiled pad I had keep to put on it for her to know what to do came back and she had already used it and she’s only four months old. I love it love it love it, it’s not too big, but it’s her home too, and we have it in the living room where we spend a lot of time as we’re retired. When she gets a little older, we will probably move it to another room, but for now it’s staying there. After she urinates, it goes down to a very pale yellow color I have been able to use one pad for all day, however, she does have a pad in a under bed tote in our master bathroom. We’ve had a few guests over and if she hadn’t used it they didn’t even know what it was. I highly recommend it. I have been using pads in an under the bed tote for over 10 years and this is a welcome audition. You won’t be sorry if you have little ones that go in the house.

Very easy to use and clean
Size: 22'' X 22''
Saved my pad training with my puppy. It's firm and easy to clean. It holds the pads well for the most part, but sometimes my dog gets a little crazy and it comes out, but I don't think it could be better. Still give a 5-star!

Don’t buy
Size: 28'' X 34''
Mine arrived broken and scratched I think I received one that someone had returned. It also doesn’t hold pads that well my 4 lb teacup Yorkie is able to pull the pad off of the pad holder without even ripping the pad.
