Oasis' 'Live Forever': I knew that the idea of ‘living forever’ immediately meant ‘vampires’ for me, obviously. So, who had the best, most evocative vampire imagery? I ambled through the classics: Christopher Lee, Max Schreck, Bela Lugosi – having already used the wonderful image of Adolphe Menjou in D.W. Griffith’s ‘The Sorrows of Satan’ in a Bauhaus/The Cure cover – even Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, but nothing was quite right.

In short order I arrived at what I think is one of the best – perhaps even the very best – vampire movie made to date, Tony Scott’s ‘The Hunger’ with David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve. Problem: the original poster is, uh, underwhelming. But then, success: the Criterion edition of ‘The Hunger’ offers a spectacular, updated cover image: creepy, modern, disturbing, borderline abstract until you realize what you’re looking at and then can’t unsee it. Done.
