Tyan Transport GT20 (B2925-E) Barebone System

Industrial quality meets blazing performance in the Transport GT20 (B2925-E) 1U rackmount barebones server. Designed for data centers, telecom rooms, and enterprise environments, this compact chassis gives you a solid foundation to tailor a high-density, purpose-built machine. With support for a single AMD Athlon or Opteron processor, a PCI Express x16 expansion slot, and up to four hot-swap SATA2/SAS bays, the GT20 is engineered for reliability, ease of maintenance, and flexible growth. A built-in 350W power supply keeps energy efficiency in mind while delivering steady, dependable power for demanding workloads. If you’re seeking a compact, scalable server that can be customized to your exact specifications, the GT20 Barebone System is engineered to deliver.

  • Compact 1U rackmount form factor: The GT20 is purpose-built for dense data centers and crowded racks, delivering a server-grade platform in a slim, easy-to-install 1U chassis. Its compact footprint provides deployment versatility without sacrificing performance or expansion capabilities.
  • Single AMD Athlon or Opteron processor support: Engineered to run a single high-performance AMD processor, the GT20 barebone gives you threading, cache, and compute power suitable for a wide range of server roles—from lightweight virtualized environments to data-intensive workloads—while allowing you to select the processor that matches your performance and budget needs.
  • Up to four hot-swap SATA2/SAS drive bays: Flexible storage expansion means you can configure for OS, data, and acceleration tiers with ease. Hot-swap bays enable fast drive replacement and superior uptime in demanding environments, reducing maintenance downtime during replacements or upgrades.
  • Single PCI Express x16 expansion slot: Add high-performance accelerators, graphics, NICs, or RAID controllers as your workload evolves. The GT20’s PCIe x16 slot supports a range of expansion options to future-proof your investments and boost I/O throughput when you need it most.
  • Reliable 350W integrated power supply: A built-in power supply provides essential power delivery with efficiency and stability, helping to keep critical workloads running smoothly. This design minimizes cable clutter and helps streamline rack setup and maintenance.

How to install Tyan Transport GT20 (B2925-E) Barebone System

Setting up the GT20 Barebone is straightforward, allowing you to assemble a fully functional server tailored to your needs. Follow these general steps to bring your GT20 online:

  • Plan and gather components: Confirm your operating system, RAM type and capacity (aligned with the processor you choose), supported storage drives (SSD or HDD), and any required PCIe expansion cards. Ensure you have a compatible AMD Athlon or Opteron processor and the appropriate memory modules for optimal performance.
  • Install the processor and memory: Open the chassis according to the service manual, locate the CPU socket, and install the chosen AMD Athlon or Opteron processor. Apply thermal interface material as recommended, attach the heatsink, and install the memory DIMMs into the designated slots per the motherboard or backplane guidelines. Ensure the components seat firmly and the locking mechanisms are engaged.
  • Mount and connect storage: Prepare up to four SATA2/SAS drives and insert them into the hot-swap bays. Secure each drive with the provided screws or tool-less trays, then connect SATA/SAS data and power cables, verifying proper alignment and cable routing for airflow and maintenance access.
  • Install expansion cards (if needed): If your workload requires additional I/O, slide in the PCI Express x16 expansion card into the slot and secure it. Connect any auxiliary power or data cables as required by the card and verify that the system recognizes the new hardware in BIOS/UEFI.
  • Power, boot, and configure: Close the chassis, connect the 350W power supply to a suitable power source, and power on the system. Enter the BIOS/UEFI to configure boot order, RAID (if applicable), and general system parameters. Install your operating system and drivers, update firmware as needed, and verify hardware health through built-in diagnostics or vendor tools.

Great construction but poor mounting hardware
They are great once your put them in but mounting them was a huge pain. The included dry wall anchors are of really bad quality and rips up a huge opening if you have to undo them for whatever reason. But the more infuriating thing is the screws they come with, which is not quite Philips 2 and easily slips from most standard driver bits. It is very easy to strip these if you are not careful. The small amount of space at the corner almost doesn't allow for easy drill access so you might have to get creative. Overall good product, but I will highly recommend buying your own set of wall anchors and screws

Sturdy as heck But NOT easy to install
Because of the angles to install the screws, I'm definitely going to have to say NOT easy to install. Simple in concept; maybe if you have paper-thin walls. But if you don't it is a pain to screw those in with the tools provided. On the upside, they do come with a mini leveler. But it's just not a practical way of screwing in the shelf unless you are prepared to spend a surprising amount of time doing it. The shelves themselves are sturdy but that should be expected since it's basically a sheet of metal.
