The Supermicro SSE-G3648B is a high-performance, SDN-ready Layer 2/3 Ethernet switch designed for modern data centers and enterprise networks. Engineered as a top‑of‑rack or rack‑mount 1U solution, it delivers flexible 1/10 Gigabit Ethernet performance with robust management, advanced features, and open networking capabilities. This switch is built to accelerate network virtualization, streamline multi‑tenant deployments, and support evolving service delivery through software‑defined networking (SDN) and open APIs.

  • Layer 2/3 performance in a compact 1U form factor. The SSE-G3648B provides fast switching and routing capabilities to handle cluttered data paths, support VLANs, multicast, and QoS policies while occupying minimal rack space. Its open networking design makes it a natural fit for modern data centers seeking scalable, cost‑effective network fabrics.
  • 1/10G Ethernet flexibility for today and tomorrow. With 1/10 Gbps interfaces, this switch accommodates a mix of client devices, servers, and storage arrays while offering room to grow as bandwidth demands expand. It’s ideal for access, distribution, and edge networks that require adaptable, future‑proof connectivity.
  • SDN-ready and Open Networking compatible. The SSE-G3648B supports software‑defined networking paradigms, enabling seamless integration with SDN controllers and orchestration platforms. This allows administrators to program network behavior, implement dynamic policies, and automate provisioning across the fabric for faster service delivery.

How to install Supermicro SSE-G3648B

Installing the SSE-G3648B is straightforward for IT teams familiar with data center gear. Begin by mounting the switch in a standard 19‑inch rack using the included rails or brackets. Ensure proper clearance for airflow around the unit to maintain cooling efficiency in the cabinet. Connect the power cord to a secured power source, and verify that the power supply is synchronized with your data center’s electrical specifications.

Once physically installed, connect your network interfaces to the appropriate servers, storage devices, and uplink switches. Use quality Ethernet cables to preserve signal integrity at 1/10G speeds. Power up the device and access the management console through the console port or the default management IP address, depending on your configuration. From there, apply initial configurations such as management IP, lockdown settings, and admin credentials, then import or create VLANs and basic routing rules as needed.

Next, enable and configure SDN integration if your network plan relies on automated orchestration. Set up ACLs, QoS policies, and security profiles to protect data flows and ensure service levels. Validate connectivity by performing basic reachability tests between endpoints, verifying that L2 switching, L3 routes, and inter‑VLAN routing behave as expected. Finally, save your configuration and establish a monitoring routine—using SNMP traps or RESTful API calls—to ensure ongoing visibility into traffic patterns, latency, and potential anomalies.

For ongoing management, update the switch firmware through the preferred method (CLI, web UI, or automation tool) to benefit from security patches, performance improvements, and feature enhancements. Documentation and vendor resources should be consulted to tailor the switch’s features to your specific network topology, whether you’re building a spine‑leaf fabric, a flat access layer, or a hybrid environment that blends traditional and software‑defined networking approaches.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: What is the SSE-G3648B best used for? A: It is a Layer 2/3 Ethernet switch designed for flexible, SDN‑ready deployments in data centers and enterprise networks. It excels in top‑of‑rack or rack‑mount roles where 1/10G connectivity and open networking capabilities are valuable for virtualization, multi‑tenant environments, and scalable network fabrics.

Color is awesome but material isn’t.
Size: 34W x 32L, Color: Blue, Size: 34W x 32L, Color: Blue
The color is pretty much as advertised. I wear a 33 so I order up a size and they were both too long and too big. Instead of returning them I washed them and put them in the dryer. The length after washing turned out perfect but the waist is still a little too big. It should also be noted that the quality of the material isn’t the best. After washing them this is how the pockets will look. You have to iron them each time to get them flat again. I would buy again because of the variety of colors but only at a cheaper price.

MOM-1, PANTS-1...well, I guess we both win
Size: 32, Color: Black
Purchased for my 17 yr old son, about 6'2, 180, medium built. PROS -Black pair is a nice happy medium between faded black and pitch dark. -Roomy around the waist, but not enough for children to sag (no, no, no,) -excellent price for quality of product CONS -might be too comfortable for wearer, resulting in an request for an abnormal amount of additional pairs -consistent compliments for wearer could cause inflated ego or confidence OVERALL I didn't hear any complaints from my son or "can you return this" which is a WIN for me, bc he's usually very picky. it's a whole thing with the length and the thickness, color, all of it. I thought these pants looked really nice, the color was casual enough for friends, and dressy enough for church. I was pleasantly surprised. Not a big fan of belts, but he is not comfortable with sagging (thank goodness), and the fit around the waist provided enough support to stay where they needed to. Pants also did not scrunch up at the bottom, and did not fit like capris. Product title described product to a T (or pants): slim fit stretch comfort casual classic solid- it was all of those in one!
