Now in mass market, from an Aurora Award-winning author comes the first book in a portal fantasy series where one woman's powers open the way to a labyrinth of new dimensions.

For Shawna Keys, the world is almost perfect. She's just opened a pottery studio in a beautiful city. She's in love with a wonderful man. She has good friends.

But one shattering moment of violence changes everything. Mysterious attackers kill her best friend. They're about to kill Shawna. She can't believe it's happening--and just like that, it isn't. It hasn't. No one else remembers the attack, or her friend. To everyone else, Shawna's friend never existed....

Everyone, that is, except the mysterious stranger who shows up in Shawna's shop. He claims her world has been perfect because she Shaped it to be perfect; that it is only one of uncounted Shaped worlds in a great Labyrinth; and that all those worlds are under threat from the Adversary who has now invaded hers. She cannot save her world, he says, but she might be able to save others--if she will follow him from world to world, learning their secrets and carrying them to Ygrair, the mysterious Lady at the Labyrinth's heart.

Frightened and hounded, Shawna sets off on a desperate journey, uncertain whom she can trust, how to use her newfound power, and what awaits her in the myriad worlds beyond her own.

I really enjoyed this book of short stories
Format: Paperback
I loved this book. It was the first time I ever read anything by Simone De Beauvoir. It is difficult but I think the title story was my favorite, watching the character go down hill so rapidly and in such detail showing her growing obession was oddly relatable, her self hatred towards her body towards the end of the story I would not try and presume to state what the "moral" of the story was... but that is exactly what I am going to do about now check it.................... I think that the main Character should have developed a concept of self outside her marriage her marriage was her identity and when that fell apart she had nothing...no sense of self it was a compelling read a little uncomfortable but I like being a littel uncomfortable when I read............

Middle-aged women in crisis
Format: Paperback
Excellent writing, but rather depressing (but perhaps accurate?).

Breath taking novel
Format: Kindle
I am not a fan of both fiction and non-fiction novels, my English is pretty bad as well. yet, here I am, and I'm planning on reading more in the future only because of this book. It's heartbreaking and breathtaking at the same time. Not saying the book is beautiful or any like that, but you will find yourself in a painful place when you read this. A painful feeling which makes you feel like you got stabbed in the heart but all the air in your lung is stuck out, no voice screams out and you can’t do anything with it.

Strong story, Weak book spine
Format: Paperback
The book itself was wonderful. Otherwise the physical structure of the book is weak and the pages began to fall off the spine reading halfway into the book. Recommend the book, and recommend another physical copy of the book.

The inner view of hopeless romantic heartbreak.
Format: Paperback
The stories could be depressing but somehow, they rise above. It's the beautiful soulful clear intelligent writing, I guess. These stories will ring true for any reader that has lost their favorite significant other. The middle story is especially amazing to me. It consists of the running inner dialogue of a woman on the edge. Nearly mad she rambles in the cleverest of ways. Ms. De Beauvoir is [was] a marvelous philosopher, writer, woman.
