Description

XLD Agar
XLD Agar is used for isolating and differentiation of Gram-negative enteric bacteria. In this medium, Yeast Extract provides the nitrogenous sources and carbohydrates required for bacterial growth. Sodium Chloride supplies electrolytes and maintains osmotic equilibrium. Xylose, Lactose and Sucrose are the fermentable carbohydrates, being the former utilized by most enteric bacteria except for Shigella and Providencia spp. Upon Xylose depletion, Salmonella (but not non-pathogen Xylose fermenters) decarboxylates L-Lysine and reverts the pH acidification due to carbohydrate fermentation. Phenol Red serves as pH indicator. Sodium Thiosulfate and Ferric Ammonium Citrate detect hydrogen sulfide formation in alkaline conditions. There is a choice of 3 sizes - 500g, 2kg, and 10kg.
PREPARATION: Mix 55 grams of the medium in one liter of purified water until evenly dispersed. Heat with repeated stirring and boil until dissolved completely. DO NOT AUTOCLAVE.

Couples Therapy for Domestic Violence
Format: Hardcover
Very helpful for students, clinicians, and researchers. Great information on understanding domestic violence from a systemic perspective. Excellent outline and explanation of the treatment model and how to implement it with couples and in group formats. This is the only model that offers clinicians like me a clear map to comprehensive treatment services for couples/partners presenting with intimate partner violence / domestic violence. I just purchased 2 more copies for staff interested in implementing the model. A criminal justice professional read my copy and stated: "This is treatment. This is what we need, especially for couples looking at reconciliation."

Excellent treatment manual
Format: Hardcover
State of the art manual on a solution-focused form of multi-couple couples therapy for intimate partner violence. Excellent presentation of the rationale and the underlying theory behind the approach. I particularly like the presentation of the first six sessions. However, I did not endorse this with 5 stars because I believe that the solution-focused approach does not go far enough for some couples and that they need some more structured interventions for managing conflict, such as those presented in Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
