The Cisco Multiflex Trunk Voice/WAN Interface Card (MFT) is a highly flexible, converged solution designed to help businesses gracefully migrate from traditional data-only networks and circuit-switched voice or video services to modern, packet-based voice, video, and data networks. Engineered to support multiple integrated applications on one compact card, the MFT family delivers scalable WAN connectivity, seamless voice and video integration, and simplified management within Cisco router ecosystems. By combining data, voice, and video on a single trunk card with integrated DSU/CSU capabilities, this card enables organizations to consolidate infrastructure, streamline deployments, and accelerate time-to-value for unified communications and collaboration initiatives. Whether you’re expanding a regional office, upgrading a campus gateway, or modernizing a service-provider edge, the Multiflex Trunk Card helps you optimize performance, reliability, and total cost of ownership while preserving existing Cisco investments.

  • Unified data, voice, and video support: The MFT is engineered to carry data traffic alongside voice and video streams, enabling a smooth transition from legacy, circuit-based services to modern, packet-switched solutions without rebuilding your entire network. This convergence reduces cabling complexity, minimizes hardware sprawl, and simplifies policy enforcement across your WAN, LAN, and collaboration environments.
  • Port options with scalable density: Available in 1-Port, 2-Port, and 4-Port T1/E1 WIC configurations, the MFT provides flexible density to match diverse site requirements. These options let you incrementally scale capacity as your network grows or as demand shifts from voice-only to multi-service deployments, all while preserving a familiar Cisco hardware footprint.
  • Integrated DSU/CSU for streamlined WAN termination: The built-in DSU/CSU functionality simplifies wide-area network termination and testing, offering reliable circuit termination, diagnostics, and performance monitoring without the need for separate devices. This integrated capability reduces equipment count, lowers maintenance overhead, and supports efficient, error-resistant WAN connections for branch offices and data centers alike.
  • Packet-voice readiness and quality of service: The Multiflex Trunk card is designed to support packetized voice and video with Cisco QoS and traffic shaping features, ensuring predictable latency, jitter control, and bandwidth allocation. This makes it ideal for voice gateways, video conferencing, voice-over-IP, and real-time collaboration tasks where timing and prioritization matter most.
  • End-to-end Cisco ecosystem compatibility: Built to integrate seamlessly with Cisco routers and IOS-based management, the MFT aligns with Cisco security policies, routing, and unified communications solutions. By leveraging familiar configuration workflows, administrators can deploy converged services quickly, maintain consistent policy enforcement, and achieve end-to-end visibility across data, voice, and video channels.

Technical Details of Cisco Multiflex Trunk Voice/WAN Interface Card

  • Data Solutions: 1-, 2-, and 4-Port T1/E1 WIC with Integrated DSU/CSU, enabling flexible trunking for diverse branch, campus, and data-center use cases.
  • Converged capabilities: Supports integrated data, voice, and video applications on a single WIC, reducing hardware requirements and enabling smoother migration paths to packet-based services.
  • Integrated DSU/CSU: Built-in digital service unit/data service unit for WAN connectivity, simplifying installation and maintenance while delivering reliable circuit termination and diagnostics.
  • Modular flexibility: Part of the Cisco Multiflex Trunk family, allowing administrators to tailor capacity and features to match evolving network demands without changing the core router platform.
  • Cisco ecosystem support: Fully compatible with Cisco routers and IOS management, with support for Cisco QoS, security features, and Unified Communications integration to deliver cohesive performance across the network.

how to install Cisco Multiflex Trunk Voice/WAN Interface Card

  • Prepare the equipment: Power down the Cisco router or ISR, disconnect from power, and discharge any static electricity by touching a grounded metal surface.
  • Identify the correct WIC slot: Locate the appropriate WIC slot on your Cisco device that supports Multiflex Trunk cards and verify clearance for the 1-Port, 2-Port, or 4-Port configuration.
  • Insert the MFT card: Gently align the card with the slot and insert it until it seats firmly and the locking mechanism engages. Do not force the card and ensure there is no resistance from adjacent modules.
  • Connect T1/E1 lines and DSU/CSU: Attach your T1 or E1 cables to the WIC’s ports and verify DSU/CSU interfaces are correctly configured for your WAN topology. Prepare any required loopbacks or test patterns for initial validation.
  • Power on and configure: Reconnect power, boot the device, and enter IOS configuration. Enable the new interface, assign IPs, and implement QoS, VLANs, and voice routing policies appropriate to your deployment. Validate connectivity with basic ping tests and, for voice, check jitter, latency, and MOS where applicable.

Frequently asked questions

Slightly repetitive but I did love some things
Format: Kindle
I love this type of story. And omegaverse is one of my all time favorite genres. But there are a few things that pulled me out of my enjoyment while I was reading. It was repetitive at times as well as struggled with telling not showing. So we didn’t always feel like we were experiencing things with the main character. There were also some plot holes but they may still be answered in part 2. Now this isn’t to be said I didn’t enjoy parts of the story. I loved the almost instant love between Mila and Oliver. And how he started changing around her.

not bad
Format: Kindle
I loved the plot of this book. The characters just didn’t have a lot of depth. The connections and “love” just weren’t communicated very well in the writing. The author didn’t write the sweet psycho trope very well at all either. Lachlan was just a mess of a character.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger
