The Cisco Nexus 2248TP Fabric Extender is part of the Cisco Nexus 2000 Series and is engineered to simplify data center access while delivering scalable, centralized control of server connectivity. By extending the Nexus fabric to rack servers, the 2248TP creates a unified server-access platform that reduces cabling complexity and streamlines management. With a design that emphasizes reliability, low latency, and seamless integration with Cisco’s NX-OS ecosystem, this fabric extender helps data centers scale out quickly without sacrificing performance or policy consistency across the network.

  • Unified server access with simplified management: The 2248TP extends the Nexus fabric to server racks, enabling consistent policy enforcement and centralized control from the Nexus parent switches. This design reduces the operational overhead of managing disparate access layers and accelerates deployment timelines.
  • Dense copper connectivity with scalable uplinks: Equipped with a large bank of 48 copper ports for server access and flexible 10-Gigabit uplinks to the core Nexus fabric, this FEX supports scalable server-to-network topology while preserving performance for virtualization, databases, and enterprise applications.
  • NX-OS integration and centralized control: As a Fabric Extender, the 2248TP relies on the parent Nexus switch for the control plane, management, and policy provisioning, enabling consistent security, QoS, and segmentation across all connected servers through a single pane of glass.
  • Low latency and high throughput: The FEX-link architecture is designed to minimize latency and maximize throughput between servers and storage, preserving application response times in virtualized environments and dense server pools.
  • Reliability, servicing, and flexibility: Built to endure the rigors of data center operation, the 2248TP emphasizes reliability with robust cooling and serviceability options. Depending on SKU, features like hot-swappable components and redundant power can further enhance uptime in demanding deployments.

How to install Cisco Nexus 2248TP Fabric Extender

Plan the topology: Before installing, map server workloads to the appropriate server profiles and determine the required VLANs, QoS settings, and policies to be applied from the parent Nexus switch. Decide which Nexus chassis or spine/leaf pair will act as the fabric’s parent and identify the uplink interfaces that will carry FEX traffic.

Mount and connect: Install the 2248TP in a standard 19-inch rack in a conditioned data center environment. Connect the 4 x 10G SFP+ uplink ports to designated ports on the parent Nexus switch using appropriate fiber or copper media as dictated by your environment. Ensure cable management minimizes bend radii and clutter to preserve performance and air flow.

Attach servers to the FEX: Connect server NICs to the 48 copper ports on the 2248TP. Plan for uniform cabling layouts to simplify troubleshooting and future migrations. Remember that server-side policies and VLAN assignments are applied centrally via the parent Nexus switch.

Configure on the parent switch: Access the NX-OS interface on the parent Nexus switch and define the FEX as a fabric extender by issuing the appropriate commands to register the 2248TP. Map server ports on the FEX to the desired VLANs, QoS policies, and any required security templates. Validate that the FEX ports are bound to the correct uplinks and that server-facing interfaces are correctly placed in the intended port channels if used.

Verify operation and policy propagation: After the FEX is registered, verify connectivity from servers through the 2248TP to upstream networks. Test key performance metrics, ensure VLAN tagging and QoS are consistent with policy definitions on the parent switch, and monitor for any dropped frames or anomalies. Run end-to-end tests for typical workloads to confirm latency, throughput, and reliability meet expectations.

Power and environmental checks: Confirm power connections meet the data center’s redundancy requirements and that cooling and airflow are adequate for sustained operation. If your SKU supports redundant power or hot-swappable components, verify these features are functioning as intended during initial deployment and routine maintenance.

Documentation and baseline configuration: Archive the final configuration, including the FEX registration details, port mappings, VLAN assignments, and QoS policies. Establish a baseline to simplify future upgrades or expansions as server workloads evolve.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is a Fabric Extender (FEX) and why would I use one? A Fabric Extender is a remote device that extends the Nexus fabric to servers in the rack while the control plane and policy enforcement remain centralized on the parent Nexus switch. This design reduces cabling, centralizes management, and enables consistent security, QoS, and policy across the data center.
  • How does the 2248TP connect to the Nexus fabric? The 2248TP acts as a remote server-access point connected to the Nexus fabric via dedicated FEX uplink interfaces (typically 4 x 10G SFP+), with all control and policy coming from the parent Nexus switch running NX-OS.
  • Can I mix 2248TP with other Nexus 2000 Series FEX devices? Yes. The Nexus 2000 Series is designed for interoperability as part of Cisco’s unified fabric, allowing multiple FEX devices to connect to one or more Nexus parent switches to scale server access across the data center.
  • Do I need to configure servers differently when using a FEX? Server configurations remain generally consistent, but you should align port assignments, VLANs, and QoS policies on the parent Nexus switch to ensure correct traffic handling and policy enforcement for all connected servers.
  • Is the 2248TP suitable for modern workloads? The 2248TP is designed for scalable server access in data centers, supporting virtualization, VDI, databases, and a range of enterprise applications when deployed as part of Cisco’s fabric architecture and NX-OS-based management.
  • What are the maintenance considerations? Regular monitoring of uplink health, port status, and environmental conditions is recommended. If your SKU provides hot-swappable components or redundant power, verify these features during maintenance windows to minimize downtime.

Great little sprayer
Size: 1-Gallon
This thing works really well. My only complaint is that you can't really get a tight cone on the mist setting. I wanted to be a little more precise, but it still got the job done. I would recommend this more for lawn treatments over bug spray (which is what I used it for), just because of the wide dispersal cone (especially indoors). However, it still works just fine, and gives a lot of coverage in a short amount of time. It does shoot a very precise stream out, but it's way too much liquid at once in my opinion. If you're wanting precision, you'll need to look elsewhere. As for the value, it's well worth it.

Chapin 1-gallon sprayer
Size: 1-Gallon, Size: 1-Gallon
★★★★★ Versatile Little Sprayer That’s Great Around the House, Garden & Garage. This Chapin 1-gallon sprayer has turned out to be one of the handiest tools I own. I originally bought it for spraying organic bug treatment and neem oil mixtures on my plants and garden, but I’ve ended up using it for several different things. The pump builds pressure quickly and the spray pattern adjusts easily from a fine mist to a stronger stream depending on what you’re doing. It sprays evenly and feels much more controlled than some of the cheaper sprayers I’ve tried in the past. One thing I like is keeping separate sprayers for different jobs. I use this one mainly for garden and plant care, while I keep another one strictly for bug spray and outdoor treatments so chemicals don’t get mixed together. It’s also useful outside the garden. You could easily use this for automotive detailing too — things like liquid waxes, degreasers, wheel cleaners, or spray-on protectants. The wand and hose feel durable, and the tank itself feels sturdy without being too heavy to carry around. Simple, reliable, easy to clean, and useful for way more than just gardening. Definitely worth having around the house or garage.

Works well. Easy to carry.
Size: 1-Gallon 2-Value Pack
My 2-gallon sprayer’s nozzle cracked — leading to Spectracide dribbles along my path through the yard…not good! Since a replacement nozzle cost as much as a new sprayer, so began the search for a new unit. I admit that lugging a full 2-gal sprayer around the yard, although it required no refilling, became quite tiring and blister-inducing; I then began reading reviews for 1-gal … Horror stories about bad seals, leaks, no pressure, etc. had me dismayed. However, since Amazon’s return policy is easy, I decided on this 2-pack of 1-gal Chapin 22000. If needing my usual 1.5-2 gallons of weed killer, I could always fill BOTH ahead of time and save myself some blisters and backache! Never having used pressurized sprayers WITHOUT pressure relief valves, I was slightly hesitant to buy these, though…well, I guess I’ll just have to be extremely careful to not get the poisonous spray on myself when removing the pump! ☠️ Sprayers arrived in perfect, brand new condition; all parts/pieces were received. Assembly was super easy, even WITHOUT referring to instruction manual — used channel locks to tighten the hose, as pliers could not be located and hands are not very strong. Tested/practiced with water. Got a feel for how many pumps were necessary and adjusted the spray tip to my preference. My last sprayer required opening the PRV and then squeezing sprayer to empty hose/release remaining pressure in order to be able to unscrew pump handle. The directions for THESE say to simply unscrew the handle a bit until you can hear the built-up pressure vent out. I did just that — no explosive spray to the face and the pump handle unscrewed easily. WHEW! So, today was the sprayer’s maiden voyage around the yard. I followed the directions to pump the handle until resistance is felt (maybe 8x?). WOW — so much easier to carry! Pressure is great — liquid shot out about 15’! Although the “feel” of the sprayer trigger is cheap and small (even for female hands), it was quite responsive and allowed for a steady stream with no leaks/dribbles. Happy with this purchase and hope I can get at least a few years out of them. 🤞🏼 Also, after I’d placed my order, I just happened to be in WM’s lawn/garden section… These are sold there, as well, for a higher price. They seem to be very popular, too, as nearly all were gone from the shelf.

Simple, Reliable Pump Sprayer with Easy Locking Trigger
Size: 1-Gallon
This pump sprayer is very straightforward to set up and gets ready for use quickly without any complicated assembly. The locking trigger is a standout feature since it allows continuous spraying without needing to constantly hold the handle down, which makes longer watering or treatment tasks much easier on the hand. The spray output feels consistent and controlled, and it works well for garden applications like fertilizer, herbicide, or general watering. The build quality feels solid enough for regular home and garden use, and the tank is easy to fill and pressurize without much effort. The handle and pump action feel smooth, and overall operation is simple and intuitive. Considering the ease of use, practical locking trigger, quick setup, and reliable performance, it offers good value for the money for everyday garden and yard maintenance tasks.
