The eye does not tire of wandering across the surface.
Kilims were and are used mainly as floor coverings (a good underlay can help). But they are also impressive as wall hangings, curtains and were often used in all these ways in nomadic life as well as room dividers in tents. They make sumptuous covers for seats and tables.
