Dated 2023 in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Edward Jenner’s death. English physician and scientist who pioneered the concept of vaccines, and created the smallpox vaccine, the world's first vaccine.
The very first inoculating was carried out on 14th May 1796, when Jenner injected the 8 year old son of his gardener 'James Phipps' with pus scraped from cowpox blisters on the hands of Sarah Nelmes, a milkmaid who had caught cowpox from a cow called Blossom. The boy suffered a small fever, but did not go on to contract the disease.
