The Shapton Glass Stone HR 45.94 Micron #320 Grit belongs to the Glass Stone series, renowned for its innovative design that combines layers of tempered glass to offer exceptional usability in a slim package.

This series provides a wide range of stones, allowing users to achieve their desired blade finish effectively. The 320 grit Glass Stone is the third most coarse stone in the Shapton Glass Stone HR series and should only be used on very dull tools and knives. The large grit particles in this stone enable fast cutting and profiling.

Contrary to the traditional notion of sharpening stones as large and heavy, Glass Stones are thin, light, and durable due to the layers of tempered glass bonded together. This construction imparts strong resistance to cracking or sudden breakage caused by external shocks, ensuring long-lasting performance.

The abrasives in these glass stones are highly uniform, ensuring consistent abrasive performance from the first pass to the end of the stone's lifespan.

The Glass Stone series includes two types each of the 4000, 6000, and 8000 sharpening stones. The main difference between them lies in the abrasive agents used. Specifically, the Glass Stone series 50603, 50703, and 50803 are recommended for sharpening composite steel blades where steel has been forge-welded with another metal.

Each Glass Stone in the series is composed of a 5mm tempered glass backing plate bonded to a 5mm thick stone. Shapton sharpening Glass Stones are made with finely graded ceramic cutting media that requires less flattening and has a longer lifespan compared to most whetstones.
