Mecklenburg's 1810 census was destroyed during the War of 1812, and the abstracted personal property tax list offers a substitute census for the head of households.

Abstracted from original Personal Property Tax Records in the Library of Virginia.

Mecklenburg is one of eighteen Virginia counties for which the 1810 census is lost. In August, 1814 British troops occupied Washington, DC and public buildings were put to the torch. In the destruction that followed, numerous early records of the government were lost, including all of Virginia's 1790 and 1800 census reports, as well as eighteen county lists for the state's most recent [1810] federal census. Although two "fair copies" of each county's census had been left in the counties for public display, these were ephemeral lists and not preserved, and by 1814 they too had been mislaid, lost, or destroyed. Hence, the closest document available we have to reconstruct a partial image of the missing county lists is the personal property tax list.

According to research notes by Minor T. Weisiger, Library of Virginia archivist: "Information recorded in Virginia personal property tax records changed gradually from 1782 to 1865. The early laws required the tax commissioner in each district to record in "a fair alphabetical list" the names of the person chargeable with the tax, the names of white male tithables over the age of twenty-one, the number of white male tithables between ages sixteen and twenty-one, the number of slaves both above and below age sixteen, various types of animals such as horses and cattle, carriage wheels, ordinary licenses, and even billiard tables. Free Negroes are listed by name and often denoted in the list as "free" or "FN."

The present abstract of Mecklenburg's 1810 personal property tax list is NOT a transcript of the entire document; rather, it is a summary of three items important in delineating the 1810 "substitute" census for this county, i.e., number of male tithables 16 and older, number of slaves twelve years and older, and the number of horses. The original form of the census was in alphabetic order by date and letter. The substitute list presented here is in absolute alphabetic order for easy reference.

In the current volume, the data is recorded thus:
        Coleman, Cain                           1          -          -
        Coleman, Obadiah & his sons,
                James, John, &
                Anderson                           4          6        9
        Coleman, William &
                Coleman, Whitehead        2        21        25

Column one represents the tithable males (16 and over) in the household; column 2 is the number of slaves over 12; and the final column is the number of horses, mares or mules.

For genealogical researchers in this 1810 period, personal property tax records may provide additional important information. Oftentimes, juniors and seniors are listed adjacent to one another and recorded on the same day. When a taxpayer is noted as "exempt", it can be a clue to someone holding a particular position in government or being elderly, infirm, or for some other reason no longer required to pay the tithable tax. Women, both black and white, appear occasionally as heads of households when they own property in their own right or as the widow of a property owner.

Another valuable source for filling in information about an ancestor is the land tax record, and especially the one for 1815. In that year, the enumerators began to add the location of the property in relation to the county court house. Roger Ward has abstracted all of the 1815 land tax records, and they are available as well.

The 1810 substitute census list for Mecklenburg County contains 1,757 households, 1,805 tithables, both white and free black, and 5,340 slaves over the age of twelve, and 6.010 horses.

⭐ DaVinci Gourmet Classic White Chocolate Syrup Review
Flavor Name: White Chocolate, Size: 25.4 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
The DaVinci Gourmet Classic White Chocolate Syrup is a must‑have if you love café‑style drinks at home. It delivers that rich, creamy white‑chocolate flavor without being overly sweet, and it blends beautifully into both hot and cold beverages. Whether you’re upgrading your morning latte or adding a touch of sweetness to desserts, this syrup is incredibly versatile and delicious. 🍫 Why This Syrup Stands Out Smooth white‑chocolate flavor: Creamy, mellow, and perfectly balanced — not artificial or overly sugary. Great for hot & iced drinks: Mixes easily into lattes, iced coffees, frappes, hot chocolate, and even milkshakes. Barista‑quality texture: Silky and consistent, making it easy to drizzle, blend, or layer. Large 25.4 oz bottle: Plenty of syrup for daily use, entertaining, or experimenting with new recipes. Versatile beyond drinks: Works beautifully in baking, frosting, oatmeal, and dessert toppings. ☕ Perfect For Homemade lattes and cappuccinos Iced coffees and cold brews White‑chocolate mochas Dessert drizzling Smoothies and milkshakes Holiday drinks and creative recipes It adds that cozy café sweetness without overpowering the drink. 🔍 Things to Keep in Mind Because it’s a classic syrup (not a sauce), the flavor is lighter and more mixable — great for drinks, but those wanting a thick drizzle may prefer a white‑chocolate sauce. A little goes a long way, so start with a small amount and adjust to taste. ⭐ Final Thoughts The DaVinci Gourmet Classic White Chocolate Syrup is a creamy, smooth, and incredibly versatile addition to any coffee or dessert routine. It elevates homemade drinks with a professional touch and adds just the right amount of sweetness. If you love white‑chocolate‑flavored coffees or want a reliable syrup for everyday use, this bottle is an excellent choice.

✪ DaVinci | Gourmet Classic Vanilla Syrup: Great Flavor, Uses Cane Sugar, Great Price...
Flavor Name: Vanilla, Size: 25.4 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
✪ DaVinci | Gourmet Classic Vanilla Syrup, 25.4 fl. oz. (Pack of 1) _____________________________________________________________________> ♦♦ Vanilla Syrup: ● I wanted to reduce the amount of flavored coffee creamer that I normally use, so I thought I would give DaVinci syrups a try. This was the first time that I tried and used the DaVinci brand. ♦♦ Coffee Time: ● I used about half of the coffee creamer that I typically use and I added a teaspoon or two of DaVinci syrup to my morning coffee. I gave it a good stir, then took a few sips and there was plenty of flavor for my liking and it seemed to have a rounder and had more of a vanilla like taste when comparing it to the vanilla flavored coffee creamer that I normally use, I definitely enjoyed the result. ♦♦ Great for Other Uses: ● I also tried this syrup with other drinks such as soft drinks, cola, orange and root-beer, and a smoothie. All of them of them were very good, indeed. Give it a try. ● I also added some to plain yogurt and some other foods and they all tasted really good as well. ♦♦ Ingredients: Cane Sugar, Water, Natural Vanilla Extract with Other Natural Flavor, Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate (preservatives), Citric Acid, Caramel Color. ✪ Pricing: $6.88 / 25.4 fl. oz. ● A very affordable price for it's size, especially when compared to other brands that I've had before. ✪ SCORE: 5 Stars > ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ♦ ✪ ♦ Over-All: ● I most definitely liked the results that I got when using DaVinci flavored syrup with my coffee, soft drinks (soda) and even food. As affordable as it is I would recommend checking it out and see what you can come up with. I would buy it again. ______________________________________________________________________>

Comparing to the coffee giant version
Flavor Name: Brown Sugar, Size: 25.4 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Flavor Name: Brown Sugar, Size: 25.4 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Starbucks comparison (from a personal standpoint): I’m fortunate enough to have a bottle of Starbucks Brown Sugar. Problem is, I’m almost out. Looking around at some alternative options, and reading the reviews- I see some saying this is a good substitute. Because I happen to have the syrup on hand, I figured I should see if it is, because it would be great given the low cost of DaVinci syrup. This picture I’m attaching is just to see the color difference. Consistency wise, the DaVinci syrup is much lighter, more runny. The Starbucks is definitely a thicker liquid, that runs much slower. Flavor is the big one: DaVinci is lighter on taste, and sweeter. The best way to describe the flavor is comparing DaVinci’s to 100% real maple syrup that’s been diluted down with water. It’s good, but not really similar (in my opinion) to Starbucks Brown Sugar. Starbucks is more smokey in flavor, more strong/bold. My drinks are made using espresso, oak milk, cinnamon powder, and ice. I made my drink the same way, but used DaVinci Syrup this time. I found that the same amount of syrup that I use for the Starbucks, didn’t feel like it had a strong enough flavor. What did I do? I added an extra ounce of DaVinci hoping to get a stronger flavor. The problem is, DaVinci is more sweet than the Starbucks syrup (in my opinion) and ended up making my drink taste too sweet. It’s sweet enough that I’m not going to finish drinking it. I’m not knocking the DaVinci syrup itself. I think it’s a good brand and a good flavor. It’s just not the flavor I was hoping would solve my issue for a Starbucks imitation. I would encourage anyone to still try this syrup, but do so to enjoy it for being its own flavor.

Tastes Like Banana Pudding and Dunkin Banana Flavor!
Flavor Name: Banana Bread, Size: 25.4 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I don't know why someone would buy this expecting it to taste like real bananas like come on ppl lol. The only way to attain a syrup that tastes like real banana bread is to make it at home. This is an artificially flavored syrup so obviously it tastes that way! I have made banana bread syrup (more like a sauce) at home and it is delicious, highly recommend!! But this is way more shelf stable and tastes amazing in an iced latte as well! Different than home made but still good. To me this tastes like banana pudding mix which also has a fake banana taste. It also tastes EXACTLY like the new Dunkin banana flavored syrup which is what I was looking for! I use 1.5 tbsp syrup, a little vanilla paste, 2 espresso shots and 2 percent milk with plenty of ice. I like keeping my latte calories below 200 and not super sweet tho so you can up it to 2 tbsp. The cals in this are not terrible, 70 cals for 2 tablespoons. Usually my syrups have 50-60 cals for only 1 tbsp so I'm pleasantly surprised this is a little lower. I bought a second bottle because I'm afraid this is a limited release lol.
