These HSS Titanium Coated 3mm – 13mm Step Drill Bits are easy to use 1/4 inch hexagonal shank for cutting into wood or metal thin plate or hollow section.

Each tool produces a clean chamfered hole in the material. Can be used on plate, bar, tube, or box section. Cutting fluid or drill lubricant is recommended (the type of fluid depends on the material being machined).

As with all machining, it is best to go slow, keep the tool cool, and use LOTS of lubricant.

Application

We recommend that your intended drilling surface is clean and dry before centre punching the material to prevent ‘wandering’. Ensure to apply sufficient lubricant.

Failure to use lubricant and/or drilling fast may reduce the life of the Bit resulting in a dull or burnt tip. Injecting cold water, oil, or simple drill lubricant while working, can effectively extend the service life of the drill bit.

This bit is best suited for mild steel and softer alloys – they are not the best with 316 Stainless Steel.
