All "CONVEX" bases have a slightly convex surface for tamping espresso.

Why convex?

Normally, the surface of the coffee powder pressed into the filter basket does not play a significant role; whether it is flat or concave, there is enough space between the coffee surface and the group head so that the water dispensed from it can be evenly distributed over the coffee powder and pass through it uniformly. However, if a flat filter is used in the portafilter, or if much more than 7g (for a single shot filter) or 14g (for a double shot filter) is used, the space between the coffee powder and the group head may be too small for optimal water distribution. To address this, the Convex Tamper Base can be used, as it leaves a cavity in the middle of the pressed coffee, allowing for better water distribution.

Not Durable…Splintered….
Had to chuck these. I loved them at first but they are not durable. Scratched themselves up right away and then the mid sized one started to splinter. I didn’t even have it for very long before I had to get rid of them. Long enough to not be able to return. I prefer the bamboo as far as wood goes, but switched to an antibacterial. It’s crazy because I had the same cutting boards for years and in the past month I’ve had to replace them 3 times now. I was so disappointed because there were such amazing reviews. Sadly that was not the case for me. I give it a 3 because they are absolutely beautiful…..you get points for being beautiful I suppose in this world. But not durable. At least not for me.
