Later on, Sinister enhanced his powers through the self-experimentation, and, in modern days, he developed a big interest and assumed a protector attitude regarding the mutant heroes Cyclops and Jean Grey, believing that their DNA can create the definitive mutant. This and other factors led him to battle many times with the X-Men and related teams. Sinister body was destroyed more than once, but he survived due to his regenerative healing factor or by transferring his mind to clones.
