In the 1960s, the Japanese racing scene was determined to catch up with the high-performance racing machines from Europe. One manufacturer, Prince, developed the first Japanese prototype racing car called the R380.

The R380 featured a powerful inline-six cylinder DOHC engine positioned in the middle of a sleek and low body. It achieved victory in the 1966 Japanese Grand Prix race and set several world speed records the following year. Later on, Prince merged with Nissan and showcased a special 4-door sedan model of the Skyline during the 1968 Tokyo Motor Show. Priced almost double that of other Skylines in the lineup, this sedan received a detuned version of the R380's potent engine. In February 1969, this spirited Skyline was introduced to the market as the GT-R. It boasted a 1,989cc DOHC 6-cylinder S20 engine producing a maximum output of 160hp. In October 1970, the original 4-door GT-R sedan was replaced by a more sporty 2-door hard-top model.

The "R" in its designation represented racing, as the Skyline GT-R dominated Japanese racing circuits from the late 1960s to the early 1970s. Both the 4-door and 2-door Skyline 2000 GT-R achieved an impressive 50 victories in domestic races during that period, cementing the renowned "GT-R legend" among Japanese motor racing enthusiasts.

This model kit includes plastic parts attached to sprues and molded in grey and black, along with clear and chrome pieces. It is intended for static display and features complete engine bay detailing, realistic reproduction of the exterior and interior, solid rubber-like tires, chrome bumpers, wipers, and grille, waterslide decals, and detailed pictorial instructions.
