It is impossible to alleviate poverty—in its fullest sense—apart from the local church. In recent years, Christians have shown an increased commitment to helping the poor. But this renewed interest in poverty alleviation is doomed to fail if it is not rooted in the local church—God’s established means of drawing downtrodden people into a transformative relationship with himself. Emphasizing the priority of the gospel, Mez McConnell and Mike McKinley, both pastors with fruitful ministries among the poor, offer biblical guidelines and practical strategies for planting, revitalizing, and growing faithful churches in hard places—in our own communities and around the world.

______________

Mez McConnell is senior pastor of Niddrie Community Church in Edinburgh, Scotland. He has been involved in pastoral ministry since 1999 and is the founder of 20schemes, a ministry dedicated to planting gospel-centered churches among the poorest of the poor throughout Scotland. He is the author of Is There Anybody Out There? and Preparing for Baptism. Mike McKinley (MDiv, Westminster Theological Seminary) is senior pastor of Sterling Park Baptist Church in Sterling, Virginia. “If your heart is moved with compassion for the weak and the suffering in the world, then you will want to pick up this book. But I must warn you, it’s not the book you think you’re getting. Instead, it’s the very book you need to read. Mike McKinley and Mez McConnell argue that while it is heartless to ignore the needs of the weak and suffering, the greatest need they have is the same need we all have—to turn away from sin, embrace Christ, and grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ in a healthy fellowship of believers committed to one another under the faithful leadership of caring pastors who will equip the church for ongoing ministry. Apart from that, we are merely meeting temporal needs and offering no hope for a changed life now.” Juan R. Sanchez, Senior Pastor, High Pointe Baptist Church, Austin, Texas; author, Seven Dangers Facing Your Church

My Monster Dogs destroyed these balls
Color: Glow in the dark II, Size: Large
I was so excited to get two of these balls for my doodle puppies to have to play with . THEY DESTROYED THEM IN ALL OF TEN MINUTES. I don't believe that there was anything wrong with the balls. They were beautiful, high quality balls. Just not durable enough for my doodles.

Sturdy, well made, puppy & senior dog approved
Color: Glow in the dark I, Size: Medium
Pet approved !!!! Our puppy immediately grabbed it by the straps and took off!! It is well made and has handled some serious chewing in the last 24 hours. We love the glow in the dark because puppy playtime does not stop when it gets dark out!! It came with a pump and was very easy to assemble and inflate. This toy would be great for a pet owner that struggles with grasp & grip strength, the straps are absolutely genius.

Fun, Durable Ball, But Straps Could Be Tougher
Color: Glow in the dark I, Size: Large
I bought the QDAN Glow in the Dark Dog Toys Soccer Ball for my German Shepherd, who absolutely loves it. The glow-in-the-dark feature is great for evening play, adding an extra layer of fun to our outdoor interactions. The ball itself has proven to be remarkably durable, standing up well to the rough play that comes with a large, active dog. However, the straps did not fare as well. My GSD managed to bite through most of them relatively quickly. While this hasn’t stopped us from enjoying the ball, it does mean that some of the interactive potential of the toy is lost. The ball continues to be a hit on its own, thanks to its resilience and the glow feature that keeps my dog engaged. If the straps were as durable as the ball itself, this would be a perfect outdoor toy for energetic dogs. As it stands, it’s still a good purchase for anyone looking for a sturdy, engaging toy for their pet, especially if nighttime play is a routine.
