I've never had a sunburn while using this and I'm not the best about promptly reapplying. The cream is a good thickness and softness. Not so thick and gooey that you hate the feel of it. It doesn't have a terrible smell but just like a standard mineral sunscreen smell. Does require a decent amount of washing/ gentle scrubbing to get it to come off the skin.
