COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the course, Person-Centred Approaches in Disability Support, where we delve into the fundamental principles, strategies, and ethical considerations essential for providing individualised and empowering care to persons with disabilities. This course aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to implement person-centred care practices, uphold human rights and dignity, promote independence, and foster meaningful engagement with clients.

Person-centred approaches in disability support are rooted in a deep understanding of each individual's unique needs, preferences, aspirations, and capabilities. We will begin by exploring the historical development of person-centred care, its evolution from traditional models of care, and the key components that form the foundation of a person-centred approach.

The principles of person-centred care form the guiding framework for this course. These principles include encouraging independence and self-care skills, involving clients in decision-making about their care, respecting clients' rights to make choices, upholding human rights and dignity, ensuring privacy and confidentiality, and addressing discrimination and stigma.

Collaborative decision-making with clients is central to person-centred approaches. We will discuss the importance of involving clients in care planning, goal-setting, and seeking their input on service delivery and preferences. Comprehensive assessments of client needs, personalised care plans, and adapting support strategies based on client feedback are essential components of effective person-centred care.

Effective communication techniques play a crucial role in disability support. We will explore the importance of active listening, empathy, clear and respectful communication with clients, building trust and rapport, promoting choice and control, and acting as client advocates within the support system.

Cultural competence is vital in person-centred care. We will discuss understanding and respecting diverse cultural backgrounds, adapting support practices to meet cultural needs, avoiding cultural stereotypes and biases, and promoting opportunities for community participation and inclusion.

Monitoring client progress, assessing effectiveness of support interventions, making adjustments to support plans as needed, and upholding ethical standards and codes of conduct are critical aspects of person-centred approaches. Navigating ethical dilemmas in support delivery, respecting client confidentiality and privacy, and ensuring clients' voices are heard and respected will also be addressed.

By the end of this course, you will have a solid understanding of person-centred approaches in disability support, enabling you to provide compassionate, respectful, and empowering care that promotes independence, dignity, and well-being for persons with disabilities.

Light and comfortable, didn't hold up for a full season
Size: 11.5, Color: Black
Pros:boots were extremely light and comfortable. Cons: if you work in rocky areas like northern California you will only get 1/2-1 season on these. Mine lasted 6 months then the fabric ripped, the soles had holes all the way through to the middle, and the tread wore down til they were smooth slick rubber. If they cost $150-$175 I'd buy 2 pairs a season but at over $300 a pair there are much better options

Nice boot!!
Size: 8.5, Color: Black
Very comfortable. Built well and obviously high quality. Fits a little big, about a size larger. They are a little thinner/cooler than the Danner Wildland and Haix Missoula. They do not have any NFPA rated tags or labels on the boot. Will upgrade the laces. Would love to see the boa system on this boot!

Needs work
Size: 12, Color: Black
I’m disappointed that I spent almost 400$ on a pair of boots and wore them for 3 days and both boot laces broke near the eyelets. As a wildland firefighter I need to be able to rely on my boots.
