Dit DS Weymouth-bit wordt met name aanbevolen voor paarden die gevoelig zijn voor druk op de tong. Tegelijkertijd kan er indien nodig meer druk op de nek worden uitgeoefend.De mond van het paard is over het algemeen iets smaller waar het Weymouth-bit zit. Het wordt aanbevolen om het Weymouth-bit 0,5 tot 1 cm kleiner te kiezen dan het Bradoon-bit. Het is belangrijk dat de zijstukken dicht bij de mondhoeken zitten. Als er te veel ruimte is tussen de mondhoek en het zijstuk, kan het Weymouth-bit instabiel worden of kantelen.
De kinketting moet zo worden afgesteld dat er een hoek van ongeveer 30 tot 45 graden ontstaat tussen de mondopening van het paard en het onderste deel van de schacht.
