8 Years in the Dessert Orin Swift. De wijn waar het allemaal mee begon. Voordat Orin Swift zelf ging produceren, verbouwden zij enkel druiven voor andere winery’s. Na dit jarenlang te hebben gedaan kwam het besef dat men dit zelf ook kon doen. Op dat moment verbouwde Orin Swift alleen de Zinfandel druif. Deze druif is echter moeilijk te reguleren per vintage. Om ervoor te zorgen dat ze toch een constante kwaliteit konden bieden werden ook de Petit Sirah en de Syrah aangeplant. Door deze 2 druiven toe te voegen aan de blend werd er een zeer constante wijn geboren. Dit is een "limited" edition wijn. De wijn wordt slechts 8 jaar gemaakt, en dan komt er een nieuw project. 

8 maanden houtlagering voor 8 Years in the Desert

Het wijnavontuur voor wijnmaker Dave Phinney begon in 1998 toen hij voor zichzelf begon en zijn eigen wijnhuis Orin Swift oprichtte. Hij heeft een lange weg afgelegd waarin hij begon met 2 ton gekochte Zinfandel druiven. Na grote succes met wijnen als Papillon, The Prisoner en Abstract, keerde Dave terug naar waar het allemaal begon. Zijn eerste liefde Zinfandel. En dat resulteerde in de 8 Years in the Desert. Het is een gedurfde rode wijn mix waar verschillende druifsoorten elkaar ontmoeten. De wijn rijpt 8 maanden in eikenhouten vaten waarna de hele wereld er van mag genieten.

Hoe smaakt de 8 Years in the Desert?

Bij het openen van deze wijn was het ook een soort van tocht door de woestijn. De aangename warme en stoffige neus doet je bijna vermoeden dat je in de woestijn bent. Snakkend naar een heerlijk glas wijn. Aantrekkelijk aan deze geur zijn de mooie aroma’s van bramen, zwarte vijgen en wat hinten van pure chocolade. De smaak doet je bijkomen na die lange tocht door het zand. Heerlijke verzachten tonen van zwarte bessen, pruimen, chocolade en leer. De tannines zijn aanwezig maar op een beleefde wijze. De afdronk is fenomenaal lang, alsof je je in een oase midden in de Desert waant.

I have an adjustable-height desk (also purchased from Amazon) and needed a drafting chair for those times when my body gets tired of standing. This chair fits the bill and then some! The depth of the seat on this chair is just a little over 18 inches, and with the adjustable footrest ring, it's perfect. I don't think a tall or heavy person would fit in it, to be honest. But it's perfect for those of us who are vertically challenged. I love that it glides easily on my hardwood floors and that it turns 360 degrees. The chair comes in numerous luscious colors, so take your pick! It is very sturdy, has good lumbar support, and the seat and seat back are very comfortable. And the arms flip up, which was an absolute must when I was shopping for this chair. I got it on sale, too -- $109.00 -- and I'm delighted with this purchase.
