Bovendien werkte Roth mee aan een drietal filmscenario’s en was hij auteur van meer dan honderd filmkritieken, die hij in de jaren 1920 en 30 publiceerde in Duitstalige kranten en vakbladen. Naast besprekingen van beroemde meesterwerken van onder meer Charlie Chaplin, René Clair, Sergei Eisenstein, Robert Flaherty, Fritz Lang en F.W. Murnau, omvatten Roths filmkritieken ook intrigerende overpeinzingen over de aard van het medium, over de voorliefde voor clichés en kleine gestes, over censuur en propaganda, over het bioscooppubliek, over de spanning tussen kunst en vermaak en over diva’s en dieren op het grote doek. Schijnwereld bevat een ruime selectie van Joseph Roths artikels en essays over film. Vertaald door Els Snick, oprichter van het Joseph Roth Genootschap, en van een nawoord voorzien door Steven Jacobs, kunsthistoricus gespecialiseerd in film.

Arrived well packaged in a sturdy box and wrapped in waterproof padding. The appearance of the wood and stain is high quality and matches pretty close to the walnt dresser.
