Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift maakt gebruik van het Law-systeem. Dat betekent dat je bij elk gevecht met een aantal verboden en geboden te maken krijgt. Denk daarbij aan regels die het verbieden om zwaarden te gebruiken of regels die er voor zorgen dat je extra ervaringspunten krijgt wanneer je magie gebruikt. Ook zijn er verschillende kaarten waarmee je deze regels kunt omzeilen of juist extra verboden kunt oproepen.

Verder kun je ook aan de hand van verschillende wapens en uitrusting nieuwe vaardigheden leren en zijn er een aantal banen voor de personages. Het belangrijkste zijn echter de gevechten. Bij een aanval zijn er twee dingen om rekening mee te houden: de omgeving en de hoek waarvan je aanvalt. Een aanval recht van voren heeft een relatief hoge kans geblokkeerd te worden. Een aanval van achteren heeft een hogere slagingskans. Zo heb je ook voordeel als je hoger staat dan je vijand en zijn er plekken in de omgeving waar bepaalde magische aanvallen niet werken. In Final Fantasy Tactics A2 is het dus belangrijk om strategisch te werk te gaan.

A brilliant poetic narrative whose lines leap off the pages which turn themselves.

When you get to the end, you wonder how Kaminsky worked his wondrous magic, how it's possible to think and write poetry like that. The poem is a story about Vasenka, a mythical town somewhere in the Ukraine, occupied by the Soviet army during an unspecified period of time. It is an allegory of the cruelty of occupation, the futility of the resistance of a few, and the deafness of the silent majority, a deafness that courageously resists the occupation and a deafness that hardens the heart and ignores the evil surrounding them. It could have happened anywhere anytime. The occupiers could have been Nazis, Ottoman Turks, American, English, or Spanish. The poetry is piercingly sharp, visionary, breathless and the metaphors are the likes of which you've never heard before, lines like “the sound we do not hear lifts the gulls off the water,” “Our hearing doesn't weaken, but something silent in us strengthens,” or “In these avenues, deafness is our only barricade.” This is drop-dead beautiful poetry.
