Chamaecyparis nootkatensis 'Pendula' kan een hoogte tot circa 15 meter bereiken. Het heeft een smal piramidale groeiwijze en een doorgaande kop. De hoofdtakken groeien schuin naar beneden en de zijtakken en twijgen zijn bijna geheel verticaal afhangend. Hierdoor ontstaat een treurende groeivorm die naarmate de ouderdom stijgt karakteristieker wordt. De bladeren zijn gebogen, donkergroene schubben met iets witachtige, berijpte randen die de gehele winter groen blijven. Chamaecyparis nootkatensis 'Pendula' houdt van elke grondsoort behalve een kalkbodem en niet te droog. Het is een geschikte boom voor de iets grotere tuin. Verder verdraagt deze conifeer een temperatuur tot -25 °C., maar verlangt wel enige bescherming tegen de strenge vorst.
