Het perfecte klimaat voor Albariño Abadia de San Campio

Bodegas Terras Gauda werd in 1980 opgericht en bevindt zich in de D.O. Rías Baixas, waar geweldige witte wijnen worden geproduceerd. Ze hebben de meeste hectare in hun bezit en maken kwaliteitswijnen van de lokale druivensoorten Albariño, Loureiro en Caíño. Momenteel is Terras Gauda de grootste wijnmakerij naar productie in de D.O. Rías Baixas. Deze wijnregio ligt in het noordwesten van Spanje aan de Atlantische Oceaan. De wijnstokken staan op prachtige hellingen waar ze genieten van het perfecte klimaat. Zeker de Albarino druif doet het hier bijzonder goed. Dat komt omdat deze druifsoort geniet van een koel en nat klimaat. Abadía de San Campio wordt voor 100% geproduceerd uit de variëteit Albariño. De druiven zijn afkomstig van wijngaarden gelegen in de regio Golian, op 150 meter boven zeeniveau. De druiven worden met de hand geoogst en in kratten naar de wijnmakerij vervoerd, waardoor wordt voorkomen dat de druiven voortijdig openbarsten. Na koude maceratie voor de gisting wordt de alcoholische gisting uitgevoerd met behulp van inheemse gist. Hierna wordt de wijn de nodige tijd met rust gelaten, gestabiliseerd en uiteindelijk gebotteld.

Hoe smaakt de Terras Gauda Albariño Abadia de San Campio?

De Abadia de San Campio is mooi in balans en heeft heerlijke aroma’s van rijpe ananas, perzik en frisse citrustonen van limoen en grapefruit. Ook lichte hints van bananen en appels komen naar voren in de geur. Deze witte wijn valt op door zijn kracht en balans in de mond. Hij is sappig en lekker fris met een krachtig maar levendig gehemelte. Het is een levendige wijn dankzij de perfect gerijpte druiven en heeft een lange frisse afdronk.

Worked well near the equator

I bought this product because I was going to be in the field for a month, outside, every day, all day, in Tanzania at high altitude. A severe sunburn would be hard to treat in the remote area we were in, but also I am very careful about protecting my skin from aging. I had to have mineral based sunscreen because as a whitewater kayaker I know it’s the only truly water resistant kind and it was going to be sweaty. And since I knew I was going to be putting it on every day, and we didn’t have running water in the field (bucket showers only) I didn’t want it to feel gross. (I really wanted to try the spray but I didn’t want to put anything pressurized in my luggage.) And I had already discovered the Coola face sunscreen (30spf version) which had impressed me with how silky smooth and not greasy it is. Now this IS greasier because it is a higher SPF. BUT I think this product is as good as you’re going to get with the protection you’re getting. Like I said, I’m a white water tiger, so I have used a LOT of mineral sunscreens. This was hands down the most comfortable one I’ve used. And it was effective. I didn’t burn once—only time I did burn was when I forgot to put it on one day toward the end of the trip, when we were out for just a couple hours—and I got the first 2nd degree burn I’ve ever had in my life. That was what this stuff had protected me from, all day every day, the entire trip. I did tan a little but I think that was mostly from the few times I was not covered during short bouts or it was cloudy. For my face I used the Coola 50spf face product.
