Batch of Texas Ebony 3 12" boards 1.6 lbs. This is a batch of three small pieces of Texas Ebony. They are a bit over 12" long. Width is 1.7", thickness is 0.5". They're intended for knife scales, and we've left them extra long so that you can select the best grain patterns for use in your knife making. This set is long enough to produce two 5" long sets of knife scales. It might give you three, depending on how you choose your scales. This set of knife scales is entirely heartwood, a dark chocolate brown. There are a few cracks that you may wish to treat (CA glue). There is also some oxidation / decay of the wood adjacent to the cracks. It still feels firm in most areas, but you may wish to avoid these areas or stabilize. This batch is discounted because of the imperfections in the wood. The boards are cut from the same piece of wood, so you can bookmatch if you wish. Each scale is 1/2" thick, so that the full stack is 1.5" thick. These have been air-dried to 10-12% moisture content. I take lots of photos, so please scroll down past the first three photos for additional images. I take close-ups of any areas of concern. |

I really like this one. Even though the Poppy character is a bit stubborn and won’t accept she is not really a detective, yet. The rest of the characters and plot delightful. I’m already looking forward to the next one.

What a wonderful mystery, a grand heroine who is polishing her detective skills.
All the pomp of the gentile classes at their play. Murders, theft, and dogs in the highlands, what could be better?

Promising start to new mystery series.

Lady Persephone "Poppy" Proudfoot attends a house party at an estate, meets some American actors, and tries to solve the murder of a stranger to the village whose body is discovered by the lake. The first in a series, this book is a quick read with a plot that moves along, although some of the large cast of characters seem superfluous (e.g., the American visitors). Poppy is a widow, a law-school graduate (in the 1920s!), and ran a hospital for wounded soldiers during WW1, so an interesting character to read about. A promising beginning to the series and I look forward to the next book. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the eARC.
