The Gibson J-45 Standard, fondly known as "The Workhorse," has been a fixture in the acoustic guitar landscape since its inception in 1942. Originally designed during World War II, the J-45 was crafted as a more affordable and readily available alternative to its extravagant predecessors, gaining immediate recognition for its versatility and reliability. Its trademark round-shoulder dreadnought shape laid the groundwork for what would become an industry standard, prized for its balanced tonal character that comfortably straddled between bass and treble frequencies.

Throughout the decades, the J-45 has been embraced by artists across genres, solidifying its reputation not just as a country or folk guitar, but as a multi-dimensional instrument capable of handling everything from rock to blues. The staying power of the J-45 can be attributed to its consistent tonal quality, robust projection, and understated elegance. Its wood combinations—primarily Sitka spruce for the top and mahogany for the back and sides—have remained largely unchanged, delivering a timeless sonic footprint that has become a cornerstone in Gibson's acoustic line-up. This iconic guitar continues to evolve, capturing the spirit of each era while retaining its foundational excellence.

At the heart of this model lies a Sitka spruce top, chosen meticulously for its balance between strength and flexibility, yielding an exceptional dynamic range. The mahogany back and sides enrich the overall tone with warm bass frequencies and a layered mid-range. Traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing under the top enhances projection and sustains the resonance.

Crafted with a SlimTaper mahogany neck and adorned with a rosewood fingerboard, the J-45 allows for easy playability across its twenty standard frets. Mother-of-Pearl dot inlays discreetly embellish the fingerboard, ensuring both aesthetic charm and functional visibility.

The guitar's electronics are nothing short of impressive; an LR Baggs VTC pickup system offers articulate amplification without sacrificing the natural acoustic qualities. Convenient soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls let you shape your sound in real-time, hassle-free.

The finishing touches? Grover Rotomatic tuning machines with kidney buttons for reliable tuning stability and a belly-up rosewood bridge, complemented by a Vintage Sunburst Top finish, executed in gloss nitrocellulose lacquer for long-lasting aesthetics. Tucked into its Gibson hardshell case, this guitar is as durable as it is distinguished.

Feels cheap, not good for old eyes.
The watch seemed to work good. But it felt cheap, and I was looking for something with better illumination and easier to read. I ended up returning it.

Takes a Licking and Keeps on Ticking
Color: Green/Black
I love this watch despite the fact that it is really a toy. I love the look of the watch, I love how lite the weight of the watch is on my wrist, and it really does keep good time if you manage the solar charge properly. Other than looking cool on your wrist, this watch has absolutely no functions other than time keeping. The black plastic bezel is molded into the case and does not turn, so don't plan on using that. The watch has no light, the dial numbers are non-luminous and the hands are very limited in terms of luminosity. No buttons. All you can do is adjust the time and date by pulling out what used to be a winding stem in the good old days. The small tag on the strap with Geographic coordinates shown on it indicate the location of the old Timex manufacturing facility (SW of Waterbury, CT). I have a nice ledge at my bedroom window and it gets good western sun for a good part of the day regardless of the time of year. On this ledge you will find a half dozen solar powered watches (mostly Casio) properly aligned to maximize the charge they may receive each day. Note that the description for this Timex watch specifically states that a lightbulb won't charge this watch. You need direct sunlight for several hours if you want to get more than a 3-week charge into this watch. So, I'll leave you with a couple of tips, my friends; 1.) If you are looking for a first watch to give your outdoorsy oriented Son or Daughter, then give them this one. Why? Because it is cool looking, fairly well built, and it actually works, 2.) After you receive your Timex watch, be sure to keep the display mount it is packaged with. It makes a great fixture to mount your watch on for charging and allows you to maximize the position of the solar cells on the dial so that you can optimize charging time. Have Fun! Jimmy
