[About the actual car]
- In the early stages of World War II, the Panzer III was one of the main battle tanks used by the German army in the blitzkrieg campaign.
- Meanwhile, the German army planned Operation Sealion, an invasion of Britain across the English Channel from France. For this operation, the Panzer III submarine tank was developed.
- A buoy connected to pipes was placed above the water, and the vehicle's body, which was waterproof in every part, was able to navigate to a depth of about 15m.
- There were three types of tanks based on the Panzer III: F, G, and H.
- The F-type submarine tank was equipped with a 3.7 cm gun. Over 400 were produced between 1939 and 1940.
- However, Operation Sea Lion was canceled and the submarine tanks were no longer used, but they were modified with fixed snorkels and were used effectively on the eastern front for river crossings.
