This is a grafted version of Bishop's Cap, also known as  Astrophytum myriostigmaAstrophytum means ‘star’ in Greek – the succulent gets its name because of its characteristic shape. The plant exhibits varied geometrical shapes with distinct vertical ribs that grow stout and prominent with time. Not just that, the plant bears scented blossoms during the blooming months. Astrophytum myriostigma belongs to the Cactaceae family and has its origin in Mexico. The winter-dormant succulent has a slow growth rate, growing up to a height of 0.6 meters, and needs partial shade to full sun exposure to thrive.

Growth Rate

Astrophytum mirostigma is a slow-growing plant.

Flowering

The blooming season takes place in summers when the plant bears a solitary white color flower, almost 2.5 inches wide. The plant blooms only when it is 6 inches tall or more.

Watering and Feeding

The watering needs of the succulent are conservative. No watering is required in winters. Watering in summer should be occasional only when the soil is dry.

Soil

Bishop Cap grows optimally in a well-drained and typical cacti soil mix.

Hardiness

The hardiness zone of Bishop Cap is 10 to 11, with a frost tolerance temperature of -6°C (21.2°F).

Light

Astrophytum mirostigma requires partial shade to grow happily.

Propagation

The ideal way to propagate Astrophytum mirostigma is through seeds.

Bishop Cap or Astrophytum mirostigma is a plant worth keeping in your succulent garden, indoors or outdoors. It makes for a wishful gifting item too!

Durable and tough
Color: Red
Very durable and squeaker is still intact which doesn’t happen often with my mastiff mix. Definitely one of his favorite toys.

Chew toy
Color: Red
It’s a great chew toy for dogs and definitely keeps them entertained for hours however, it’s not durable enough for really strong chewers. I have two pitbull puppies and in five days he tore the end off of it. I do recommend for medium sized dogs.

Not indestructible
Color: Orange
says it’s indestructible, but within an hour and a half it was destructed. There was a hole in the teeth area and it wasn’t squeaking.
