Discover the intricacies of friendship, loyalty, and the quest for identity in 'The Bead Collector' by Sefi Atta. This captivating trade paperback takes readers into the heart of Lagos, Nigeria, in January 1976, just six years post-Nigerian Civil War. The nation is rife with tensions as a new military regime takes hold, and whispers of a countercoup lurk in the shadows. Atta artfully weaves the story of Remi Lawal, a dedicated Nigerian woman who runs her own greeting-card shop, and her unexpected friendship with Frances Cooke, an American art dealer. As their bond deepens, they navigate the complexities of aspirations and personal histories against the backdrop of a society marred by conflict.

With storytelling that resonates and shines a light on the challenges of motherhood, marriage, and national identity, Sefi Atta invites readers to ponder the timeless themes of trust and betrayal. Description:

Lagos, January 1976, six years after the Nigerian Civil War.

A new military regime has been in power for six months, but rumors are spreading that a countercoup is imminent. At an art exhibition in the affluent Ikoyi neighborhood, Remi Lawal, a Nigerian woman who runs her own greeting-card shop, meets Frances Cooke, who introduces herself as an American art dealer, in Nigeria to buy rare beads. They become friends and over the next few weeks confide in each other about their aspirations, loyalties, marriage, motherhood — and Nigeria itself, as hospitable Remi welcomes the enigmatic Frances into her world.

Remi's husband, Tunde, naturally suspects Frances — like any American in Lagos — of gathering intelligence for the CIA, yet she is unconvinced. Cynical about the country's unending instability, and alienated by the shallowness of the city's elite, she willingly shares her views with Frances. But the February 13 assassination of General Muhammed prompts Remi to reconsider one particular conversation with her new acquaintance in a different light. Her discouragement overcome by a reawakened sense of patriotism, she begins to doubt that the bead collector is who she claims to be. With her signature subtlety and wit, Sefi Atta examines a brief but profound friendship, and one Nigerian mother's yearning — amid legacies of conflict and uncertainty — to help build her country from home.

'Sefi Atta brings to exhilarating life the textures, rhythms and byzantine subtexts of this complex society.' — Claire Messud, author of The Emperor's Children

Love it! Eco-friendly and Easy-to-Use Spray
Style: SPF 50, Size: 6 Fl Oz (Pack of 2), Style: SPF 50, Size: 6 Fl Oz (Pack of 2)
I really like the Alba Botanicals Coconut Clear Spray! Not only does it give me a refreshing coconutty vibe, but it’s also biodegradable and cruelty-free, which is important to me. 🐰♻️ The spray-on application is a breeze, and I love how it doesn’t leave that annoying greasy feeling on my skin. It absorbs quickly and leaves my skin feeling soft and nourished. Perfect for those sunny beach days or any time I need a quick spritz of hydration. I highly recommend this coconut clear spray to everyone who values eco-friendly choices and easy-to-use skincare products.

Great product, bad packaging
Style: SPF 50, Size: 6 Fl Oz (Pack of 2)
I love this sunscreen! I use it on myself and my child and it works very well. However, the spray nozzle on one of the cans is locked and it will not work. I have tried to turn the lock, lift it up, etc., to no avail. This item is also not returnable. $20 for 1 can of sunscreen is quite expensive.

Great product
Style: SPF 50, Size: 6 Fl Oz (Pack of 2)
Product is great with good coverage and ease of use. Much better than comparable products because it is very light feeling and doesn't leave a heavy or sticky residue on your skin. Perfect protection for anyone who burns easily or fair skinned. However I paid for the extra rushed 3 day shipping and it was delayed and I wasn't reimbursed the extra shipping charges even though it arrived 6 days later.

Save your money- don’t buy
Style: SPF 50, Size: 6 Fl Oz (Pack of 2)
Purchased this for our trip to Mexico. At two cruise ports we were doing a combination snorkel and pool day. I got this sunscreen because it was reef friendly and came with two bottles. Both bottles were IMPOSSIBLE to spray. You could not sunscreen yourself because you had to hold the bottle just right, push down with extreme force, and have your fingers place very specifically on the lid. My 13 year old and husband couldn’t even use the bottles. I did figure it out so I had to continually sunscreen everyone in the family. No one in my family has sensitive skin, but we all ended up with a fine rash after using this sunscreen. On days prior we used another brand and no one had a problem. We also reapplied often (every 60-90 min) and we still got pretty burnt. Maybe we got a bad batch…

Spray Cap doesn’t work
Size: 5 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: SPF 15
Very annoyed- first use and the cap is stuck and won’t spray unless you fiddle around with it and twist it back and forth a few times in and out of the locked position and even then you have to mash down on the button SUPER hard for it to spray. Super weird, never had this issue with any spray product before. Very annoying and nearly impossible to spray yourself with all it takes to get it to work!
