They rise atop thick, red, sturdy stems from early to late in the spring season, and often once again in the fall. Beneath the showy blooms lies a bed of large, shiny, lily-pad-like leaves, which turn a lovely reddish-bronze colour in the fall and winter. Low-maintenance and easy to grow, this specimen is an excellent choice for a ground cover in a shady area.
