A 19th century French lidded pot de confit or confit pot with rare white ironstone glaze, circa 1890s, from Martres-Tolosone, a small village in southwest France renowned for the pottery manufacturers called Faïenceries de Martres-Tolosane. The pottery or earthenware factories of Martres-Tolosane were established during the 18th century on the banks of the Garonne River, where clay deposits suitable for making earthenware were found. During the 18th century, there were a dozen Martraise earthenware factories listed, but the French Revolution and competition from England caused production to slow, leaving only two factories remaining by 1790.

Originally used for preserving fruits or vegetables and to store eggs, this utilitarian egg pot has a stunning white glaze, two handles, referred to as ears, and comes complete with lid, making it all the more collectible. Beautifully decorative, it will be a wonderful addition to any collection and add a touch of French Country charm wherever it is placed.

French confit pots having an off white color like this one are not to be confused with typical confit pots that have brightly colored glazes only on the top half. Both have similar uses but the white glazed pots did not store meat or get buried. They had a type of glaze known as terre de fer or ironstone giving them their lustrous white hue because of iron being mixed in the glaze. They were considered the poor man’s Faience because the majority of French people couldn't afford the expensive form of tin-glazed ceramics known as faience.

You cannot go wrong with these original Golden Books!
Format: Hardcover
I have treasured this book since I was a child and it has always been a part of my very fond memories. I was thrilled to see this book for sale after all these (40+?) years and I am so excited to be able to impart the innocent and meaningful life lessons that these timeless quality books have unto my grandchildren. I'm sure they will love this book as much as I did; and if not, I am glad to have it back just for a quick trip back to those good ole days, even if it's only for five minutes. I purchased this book as a used seventies edition and it looks like it's been loved and smells like a good book should. The condition was exactly as described and I would highly recommend this seller.

Golden memories that form new ones
Format: Hardcover
The Little Golden books bring back memories of my adult children when they were young. So why would this great-grandma not begin a collection for her great-grand baby starting with her first-birthday? These books are excellent, never disappointing.

Little Golden Books Are Wonderful
Format: Hardcover
These books have been, and continue to be, the best books ever written for children. They teach life lessons in such a genteel way and the artwork is wonderful. I associate these books with my wonderful childhood. My mom read them to me all the time. I was glad I could purchase them as gifts to give to my friend so she could read them to her grandchild!
