These three images were photographed straight down from a drone, showing individual trees blanketed in heavy Central Otago snow. From above, their forms become surprisingly graphic - dark branches pushing outwards under thick white coverage, creating natural patterns that almost look drawn rather than photographed. The smooth snow around them acts like a clean backdrop, separating each tree and letting its shape and structure really stand out.

Seeing them from the air takes away our normal sense of distance and horizon, turning a very familiar rural winter scene into something more abstract and design-focused. It’s also a quiet reminder of just how substantial our snowfalls can be here. What might feel ordinary at ground level becomes, from above, a simple study of line, texture and form - all shaped by weather and season.
