Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

--Proverbs 9:9

Upon announcing his retirement, Daryl Ward documented ministry lessons for the elected successor, his son, Joshua. Loosely modeled after Apostle Paul's writings to mentees like Timothy, Letters to My Son: Advice for Today's Pastors and Christian Leaders extends his experiences to emerging church leaders seeking new sources of inspiration.

In this book, you will learn:

  • Strategies to manage administrative and leadership teams
  • Fresh, proven insights about marriage and ministry
  • Techniques to enhance your partnership with God to fulfill your call

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

As a nationally recognized pastor and seminarian, Daryl Ward speaks to the needs of the un-churched and at-risk urban communities. With innovative programming, he and his wife, Co-Pastor Vanessa, led Omega Baptist Church in Dayton, OH to embrace its "church unusual" identity.

Reverend Ward served as senior pastor from 1988 through 2019. During his thirty years of service, the ministry grew from 100 to 4,000 members at its peak.

A graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and Colgate Rochester Divinity School, Reverend Ward served as director of admissions, dean of African-American Ministries and president and chief operating officer of United Theological Seminary.

REVIEW:

"Rev. Daryl Ward has given us a document of dedication that deals with ministry, suffering, sacrifice, service and transition. Throughout Letters To My Son: Advice for Today's Pastors and Christian Leaders, we hear and feel 'the sound of the genuine' (Howard Thurman). The sound comes from God through Daryl Ward and his multiple experiences as a sacred gift to us and coming generations. Thank you, Rev. Ward, and thanks be to God."
- Reverend Dr. Otis Moss, Jr.

Right on!
This book really resonates with me--an adult child of alcoholism. It is written in a style I can relate to--not too academic--just real and relate-able. I am just beginning to read it cover to cover, but have read sections in nuggets as time allowed, and I have gotten a lot of personal insight from them. It is a very thought-provoking and a wonderful self-growth book as I had / have no idea what "normal" is. I am obsessed with recovery this year via the 12-steps and fellowship with like-minded 'travelers.' I love this book--so far so good- and am anxious to spend more time with it. 👍🙏💚💓

Not as good as i thought it would be...
Format: Paperback
A lot of good information but too general in nature... needs more interesting stories about the problems and how to remedy them.

This book is a hope for adult children
Format: Paperback
I have been in the therapy for years. I couldn't see where I was heading to. I just knew something wrong with my life. I read "Adult Children: The secrets of dysfunctional families" and I read "An adult child's guide to What's Normal" I am grateful someone out there working on this issue. This book has been helping me to open my eyes along with my therapy work. I actually practiced some of the normal actions and stay away from a destructive and abusive relationship, which I didn't know it was even abusive before. Feelings are to be accepted. Thoughts are to be understood. Only words followed by actions count. "How do you know about my life so well?" was like my feeling when I read this book. I am taking my life back. Thank you so much on your work, John Friel, Ph.D. and Linda Friel M.A. Now, I am going to learn how to appreciate others and me with my heart, not with "doing his/her favor".
