PSS 02-70M-500 - Dripless Shaft Seal 70 mm, 5" Stern Tube

The PSS 02-70M-500 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for optimal performance in marine applications. This innovative mechanical face seal features a precise sealing surface formed between the rotating stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange, ensuring a reliable barrier against leaks.

The stationary carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellows using hose clamps, while the back end fits over the stern tube, also held in place with hose clamps. The rotor, made of stainless steel, is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, where it compresses the bellows before being fastened to the shaft using set screws. This pre-load maintains continuous contact between the rotor and flange, allowing the seal to adjust for any forward or backward movement caused by propeller thrust.

Moreover, the carbon flange is over-bored to match the shaft diameter, enabling it to "float" and effectively address misalignment and vibration issues. The rotor is sealed to the shaft with two recessed O-rings that rotate with the shaft, minimizing wear during operation.
