A deficiency of B-group vitamins, magnesium and tryptophan has been linked to nervous symptoms and dietary supplementation has been reported to be effective as a mood stabiliser. Nervous stress plays havoc with the horse’s digestive system, disrupting the normal healthy balance of gut microflora and allowing pathogens to flourish. Visible symptoms include reduced appetite, temperament changes, and soft droppings.
