Handmade in the Esme region of western Turkey during the 1940s, this vintage Anatolian kilim reflects a weaving tradition that has been practiced in the area for centuries. The large stepped diamonds and bold geometric drawing often remind people of Navajo textiles, which is one reason Esme kilims have become increasingly sought after. While there are visual similarities, these are not adaptations or reproductions. They are authentic Anatolian village weavings with their own long-established design language, developed independently within the rural weaving traditions of western Turkey.

Handwoven from handspun Anatolian wool, this flatweave has developed the soft handle and character that only decades of use can create. The colors have mellowed beautifully over time while retaining remarkable clarity and contrast. The rug remains in excellent vintage condition, showing gentle signs of previous use consistent with age.
