I’ve only been on this planet for a relatively brief period of time and if we count my initial years of living, I wasn’t really conscious- so I’m new to this whole “identity thing” however, thus far, I’ve learnt that I’m a fairly creative person. I’ve dabbled in the world of performing art and dipped my toes in the creative writing sector, but nothing has tickled my brain better than visual arts. I am sometimes described as a deep thinker, more commonly a “worry-pot”, and every now and then a “existential crisis personified” so I’ve learnt to use my art as a way to attach these worries and issues to something tangible and let the world deal with it. Art is one of my newer hobbies and this year I’ve gotten three diplomas from the National Eisteddfod and have been eligible for the National Young Artist Award for two years in a row. My go to style is surrealism with a mix of abstraction but as I’ve mentioned - I am a baby to the industry, and I am still experimenting with different styles and techniques. |
| Inspiration: | I was inspired to paint an artwork that would create awareness of the domestic violence women in South Africa face and the epidemic of gender-based violence that infects our country. I wanted to celebrate these survivors' strength as they battle their perpetrators. Every woman is her own Joan of Arc, a warrior and an icon. |
