About Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum

Overproof rum, such as the Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum, is characterized by its high alcohol content. This rum, which sits at a staggering 63% ABV, is no exception. It contains a powerful banana-funk spice that can be harnessed to create captivating cocktails. According to cocktail connoisseur Greg in his How to Drink episode: What is Rum? Wray and Nephew is quintessentially, cocktailer rum. Ever heard of Victor Bergeron? You may know him better as Trader Vic, whose chain of cocktail bars claim to have originated the Mai Tai in 1944. The heart of Trader Vic's Mai Tai? Wray & Nephew 17-Year-Old Rum, of course.

But what exactly is white rum? White rum, also known as light rum, is usually light-bodied (although there are a few heavy-bodied white rums in the Caribbean). It is typically clear and has a very mild flavor. Like other types of rum, white rum is usually made from sugarcane and distilled water. Check out more on the topic with our White Rum vs. Dark Rum blog post.

From humble beginnings in 1825 at the Shakespeare Tavern in Kingston, Jamaica, Wray and Nephew Rum has grown to become synonymous with Jamaican rum and tiki cocktails. It first won international acclaim at spirit exhibitions in Europe in the 1860s, earning gold medals in London, Paris, and Amsterdam by the end of the century.

In 1916, they acquired the other world-renowned Jamaican rum distillery, Appleton Estates. Today, brands directed by Wray & Nephew, who are in turn owned by Campari, account for 90% of Jamaican rum production.

We at Curiada are delighted to offer Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum, a product often hard to find, for our 2-5 day delivery. Our marketplace caters to passionate cocktailers looking for unique bottles to curate their collection.

Like Campari's other cocktailing classics, Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum is a requisite for any cocktail enthusiast. It’s an exceptional base for cocktails, particularly tiki classics like the Mai Tai, Rum Runner, and Siren's Kiss. Looking to recreate the legendary Mai Tai? Check out our Mai Tai Recipe. Its potent flavor, punch, and storied history is unrivaled. Whether you're concocting a wonderful mai tai or an excellent rum punch, this overproof rum from Jamaica will not disappoint.

Tasting Notes

Memories of the Camino
Format: Paperback
First off, I have to say that my husband and I know Angela, the author. We met her because she is a neighbor of my sister, living in Hawaii. We discovered that she planned to walk the Camino de Santiago de Compostela the same year we were (2016) ! On a visit to Hawaii, we met with Angela and did a little local hike together. She was so enthusiastic and had prepared well. We, too, had been reading up and watching videos, getting suggestions as to what to bring, how to deal with physical issues and weather, what to pack and what not to pack, etc. Still, for anyone doing the Camino - whether the WHOLE 500 miles or doing the required 100 km to get the certificate at the final destination: Santiago de Compostela, Spain - it is a very personal endeavor. Reading Angela Leslee's book gives you the personal story of her "camino," and it is captivating. The changes that take place in her life - the discoveries she makes, the people she meets, the failures she feels, the fears, the habits that get broken (such as food choices!) - all make for an adventure that is life-changing and an interesting read. For anyone considering this pilgrimage, because that's what it is, this book will inspire you. You don't need to be part of a "group." You don't need a lot of plans. You do need to be prepared to be changed. The memory for myself and my husband is that it is the best shared experience we have had together in our 50 years of marriage! Angela's book brought back so many wonderful memories for us. I highly recommend this book.

Feeling Inspired!
Format: Paperback
Reading "The Way of Love" has inspired and encouraged me as I plan for my first (solo) Camino. I thank Angela Leslee for being unafraid to bare all the emotions in her book: the joys, victories, setbacks, disappointments, and pain. It's evident that "The Way of Love" was a labor of love as page after page recounts the 500 miles she walked! I told the author in an email that, in September, when I walk my Camino, I'll be sure to be up and out on the trail "...before sunrise when the yellow street lights cast their magical glow." Can't wait to experience that! "The Way of Love" -- easy to read and enjoy.

the good, the bad, the funny, the reality
Format: Kindle
A great memoir of an “older” woman walking the Camino de Santiago alone. Alone but with many friendships along the way.

An Honest Tale
Format: Kindle
When someone you know writes a heart-felt story of a journey of self-discovery, it's startling to realize how little you knew of their self. Walking the Camino across Spain in 40 days of pain and revelations, Angela takes us on an epic journey into her soul. She marvels, delights, laughs, and cries at the breath-taking scenery, the scents of forests and fields of flowers and grasses, the fellow pilgrims she meets and re-encounters across the 40 days. Day by day we travel with her. Her account of everyday life on the journey is vivid. I recommend this book to everyone who has been, or wants to go, on a voyage of self-examination, who wants to question why they are living in the way they are. Maybe life could be different, if one took time to try a different way.

Compelling!
Format: Paperback
I loved this book. It is a personal, honest, beautiful account of walking the Camino, and I didn’t want it to end. The actual reality of walking the Camino is aptly portrayed in this open-hearted story. Angela’s unique turn of phrase, her outrageous humor, her vulnerability, the unrelenting pain, and the lessons learned are beautifully expressed, and are a testament to her endurance and to her Love. Angela has the true heart of a pilgrim, showing us that seeing with eyes of Love is all that matters. Bronwen Diana
